    The French version of the philatelic forum is on fire with messages, 76 at the last count, all saying exactly the same as here. Does anyone think there is any merit in a mass protest and removal of all items in a single co-ordinated protest?

    I have just done a calculation and came to a quite startling answer. Over the last calendar year I sold 5556 items, at a total value of £8275. This equates to a total of £666 of additional fees. This equates to 8% of my turnover. With the addition of 5.5% fees totals 13.5%. In order to make this work and to sell good Mnh stamps, for which I generally ask 50% of cat value, I now need to buy at a further 8 % less than I have been, just to make it worthwhile. I have body knows of any auction houses or wholesale dealers willing to drop their prices to accommodate this ridiculous scheme, please let me know.

    I suspect I will follow hoatzinstamps and walk away from what has been, until now, a thoroughly pleasant experience using a good website, with excellent buyers and sellers, and a great community. I have been planning my own website for a while now but have been dilatory in implementing it but I have this morning booked an appointment with my web provider to do exactly that. When it is done I'm off!

    And another thing, while I'm on a roll, if the moderators spent their time censoring rubbish scans, cheap duplicates and general dross, instead of the idiotic trend of spending their time moving items between pointless and unnecessary categories this problem could have been sorted years ago. Instead they seem to concentrate on moving items from bechuanaland to 1966 to Botswana, which and decent collector would be able to find anyway!

    Steve, you can filter by price on the search bar on the left. It only searched by USD though, so I put in 0.01c to 0.10c, and it shows you have 2,792 sales in that range.

    The page that loads has a "Preferences" panel down the left side. The price sort is on there.

    It's the bane of any collector with limited time to browse when items are listed in the wrong category. There are serial offenders on every auction site, and personally I have no issue letting them know!

    Having said that, yes, the Mods could target the woeful scans and poor listings as well, which are a far bigger problem.

    FYI, Moderators are taken on to police the categories and keep everything neat and tidy, so moving things to their correct categories is an essential part of their function

    I agree a lot of crud could be removed at the same time but I think you'll find it generates a lot of ire and venom aimed at the Moderators concerned - witness the howls of protest when 'illegal' items were being removed

    Oh, and by the way, Moderators are all volunteers and don't get a single penny for their services

    I do not think that moving items from one catagory to the next is a bad thing, and I certainly am not attacking moderators, and if I gave that impression I am sorry, it was not intended as such.....

    However, howls of anguish should be ignored; if the perpetrators don't like it then they should up their own game rather than spoiling things for the huge majority of good quality sellers listing high quality items at correct, albeit low values. The site belongs to Delcampe, not to the sellers.....if the policies of duplication were followed, and a further policy regarding quality of image/item were introduced and enforced then those squinnying would either go elsewhere or improve their listings, and there are few buyers out there that would shed a tear....after all, the original aim of the 'sane' policy is to allow buyers to browse more easily.

    Delcampe has actually been quite clever here......firstly we get hit with a major hike in fee's, and with no realistic possibility of changing listings in such a short time, to now having a softening email extending the period; this now give sellers 4 months to blow off steam and gradually coming to terms with what has happened, and by the time 31st December comes a lot of the anger will have dissipated and I suspect a number of sellers will continue to list after that date anyway. Whether Delcampe have done this by accisdent or design is an interesting thought but in UK political terms it is not dissimilar to 'burying bad news'!

    There is some truth in what you say...it depends on the mis-categorizing.....for example Kazakhstan listed under Chile is quite cleary dumb, but a Luxembourg 1980 stamp in the 1970-79 catagory is not really a problem, as most collectors will skip through several allied catagories or often use dates as their search criteria.......it must be said though, as a confirmed pedant, with a touch of OCD, mis-catagorizing IS a cardinal sin.

    Whilst writing, I recently uploaded a load of stuff to another website, around 6-700. That was about 5 months ago. This was done by using the export function on Delcampe, creating a CSV, then uploading automatically. During that process, a couple of duplicate items were included. For example an Afghan Malaria souvenir sheet that appeared on Delcampe once as an Afghan stamp, and again as a 'Health' topical, therefore the descriptions were identical. A bit of a long-winded story, but in a nutshell the websites software automatically rejected the duplicate item, with an automated response stating that it was against their policy to allow repeats. If this system were implemented across delcampe, even retrospectively, thousands of lots would instantly disappear, including a lot of mine where two identical items appear in two relevant catagories. I would be quite happy to lose a few items in this process! Despite this, I must confess that I have yet to acheive a sale on that site! But its the methodology that counts!

    It was not the fact that you mentioned Ebid, but the fact that you included a link to your listings there.

    It is not allowed to insert a link anywhere on the Delcampe website that goes to a commercial site.


    And as Xtf has pointed out, we work as volunteers and as a "thank you" every now and again get a load of S*** thrown at us for interfering (closing/moving, requesting better images) with listings from sellers who think they know better. Admittedly only a very small percentage of sellers behaves in that manner and if I get a polite request for further explanation, I am always happy to reply.

    It is not allowed to insert a link anywhere on the Delcampe website that goes to a commercial site.


    And as Xtf has pointed out, we work as volunteers and as a "thank you" every now and again get a load of S*** thrown at us for interfering (closing/moving, requesting better images) with listings from sellers who think they know better. Admittedly only a very small percentage of sellers behaves in that manner and if I get a polite request for further explanation, I am always happy to reply.

    Thanks for the explanation....being a moderator sound like a right royal pain in the Prince Harry....rather you than me.

    Does this rule stop me referring to my own PERSONAL selling website, or to auction-style competitors?

    Incidentally, your Sellers guide, in the 'guides and manual' section, found under the Help & Contact menu, state that your charges are between 2 & 4%, but your rates section, under the same drop down state 2% to 5.5%! Does this mean we can all have a refund?

    This is a poorly thought through pricing strategy from Delcampe. Delcampe never seems to consult - it must be the Continental way of doing business!

    Already we see a knee jerk reaction to the hostility to soften the transition or rather just to extend the period - typical Delcampe. And I doubt that their software is capable of adjusting to the latest transition change proposed to differentiate and calculate between 'old' and 'new' transactions from 1 September!

    The goodwill build up over many years has evaporated in a matter of an ill thought through price change. This damage will prove difficult to recover from.

    Why not tackle bulk sellers of cheap used rubbish rather than punishing sellers with quality items at low value?

    In your items on sale now, your average price is 5.77$ (it is not confidential, it is public in your store). Before the new changes, over this amount, you had 5.45 left, now 5.27. Of course, it is less... but it is not a big loss...

    This is a terrible idea. I have 29000 items for sale or as 'buy it now' duplicates waiting to auto list and am consistently in the top 7 sellers with many items within the price bracket you mention. This will render Delcampe VERY expensive and not worth using. Please also bear in mind it is mainly lower value items that sell whilst high ticket items do not attract as many buyers or viewers. This rule will make it not worthwhile staying on the site. I believe you need to urgently rethink or at least CONSULT with your users. I will have no option to remove around 20,000 items if this proceeds. I am VERY dissappointed in this and that Delcampe have not discussed the matter with users. It is quite clear that the value of items is not the issue. There are one or two users that are drowning the market in cheap duplicated rubbish, but we good dealers selling low value but QUALITY items are being punished also. I urge you to rethink urgently or I, and I suspect a large number of other usres will need to look elsewhere to sell. I have supported Delcampe in many ways, notwithstanding ALWAYS mentioning on Twitter etc and am bitterly dissappointed in this.

    This fee change is a total joke.Delcampe has built this site based on reasonable feesfor sellers to compete with ebay.The majority of buyers are not advanced with deep pockets for key items.I moved stock to Delcampe to specifically offer buyers low to midpriced items....and object to a concept of a high value site.I might as well keep everything in ebay.
    What is the problem for anyone to bypass low value listings...simply prompt
    the listings to appear from high to low.Presto no clutter no fuss.
    Who is going to regroup thousands of listings and rescan and renumbert these lots?
    Maybe the minimum fee charge should be added on to the buyers fees along with paypal charges....too bad Delcampe was a good thing,going the wrong way.They should remember what made them successful and perhaps deflating their ego and come back to earth.

    This is a particularly poor response. We all know that it is possible to make numbers say anything you want. Well, here is my, more relevant, calculation. Since I joined I have SOLD 15,711items, fo r a total of £23,693. This is an average of £1.50 per item. This proves that GOOD quality items sell. At 5.5% this is £1303 for delcampe. It would have been an additional £1256 at gold member £0.08 per item. That is just about 100% increase. If you implement this policy I will have to remove all items less than £4.00, that will be close to 20,000 items. This equals 20,000 saleable items averaging £1.50 each, losing you income from me of 20,000x1.5/5.5%=£1,650. In doing so you WILL still be left with tens of thousands of unsaleable rubbish that will not sell because of the seriously poor quality, which will still be using your server space.

    Additionally, I do not like the quote stating that most people agree with this policy. It is quite clearly not true. Please publish the information supporting this, or let your members have access to the poll through google.

    I will be actively looking for an alternative site to place my listings on; in fact I have already opened accounts with some. This is very sad for me as I have always been true to delcampe but the sane policy clearly does not achieve the aim.

    Pleas rethink.
