AZORES 1876 300r. - please help identify?

Shown is an Azores overprint on an 1876 300r. lilac of Portugal

OK so far, except the stamp shown is imperforated and the 1870-84 issues were perforated either 12½ or 13½

A friend and I spent much time last night trying to identify this stamp, looking through Gibbons', Michel and Y&T but to no avail

    Is it either (a) a cunning forgery, (b) a cut-out from a p/s envelope, (c) a closely-trimmed perf variety or (d) a previously-unidentified imperf variety - other values are known imperf

I shy away from (b) because the colour is correct, the embossing is fine and the paper weight seems right for a stamp, whereas p/s stamps tend to have different design or colour elements; if it is (a) then it is a very good one indeed

Your comments and observations are most welcome

    Hi Cajun,
You could be right with that diagnosis -it was the conclusion we were coming to before midnight struck and I reverted to my other self...
Must have been well-centred with good margins though
