Hello friends,

Yes, I do feel the necessity of an English website where one can buy or sell in EURO currency as well. Now Euro is a common currency in Europe and English is an International Link language.

Another aspect I want to know is how I can shift my English language listed items that is already there at Delcampe.com and which is by deault goes to the Delcampe.fr site to The Delcampe.net site, in English. do I have to do anything, or will it automatically appear at thje new Delcampe.net site in English language.

And last, I want to share my wonderfrul experience in dealing with the delcampe.com site till now, irrespectve of the lanmguage barrier. I only speak English, still I have done purchase/sell transactions successfully with people who speak French, German or Belgiium. Delcampers have only one language, that is the language of immense friendship and the spirit of co-operation

I suggest the following "instead" of communities
or a COMBINATION of both:

Let´s call it: "MY PERSONALISED DELCAMPE":

SELLER:
1.) I only have to post my items at: delcampe.com.
2.) I put the prices in EUR, GBP or USD.

(Then I don´t have to post the same items in every community
as I will cover it ALL)

BUYER:
1.) I choose:

a.) A country from a country list A-Z
plus a language or languages from a language list or
b.) only a community:

delcampe.com for the WORLD (EVERYTHING as per today)

delcampe.us for the United States ( no problem to get an .us domain
if yoo don´t know how, I do)

delcampe.co.uk for Great Britain

delcampe.fr for French speakers

delcampe.nl for Dutch speakers

delcampe.de for german speakers (skip Austria, Germany,LIECHTENSTEIN and Switzerland.)

delcampe.es for spanish speakers (skip Spain and Latin America as
theres a great spanish communty in US and the rest of the world)

delcampe.it for Italian speakers (skip Italy as .. hmm. well in Argentina there´s a great italian community and hmm in Eritrea too. About Libya and Ethiopa I don´t know but for sure in Malta.

Example 1. (A fellow who only speaks french and spanish)
For countries I choose: USA, Canada, Liechtenstein and Niger
and I choose french and spanish.

Some of the listings will be in english, dutch and german
BUT I will be surprised that there are so many people speaking spanish and french in USA, Canada and Liechtenstein and Niger.

Example 2. (A fellow who only speaks french)

I don´t choose country. I only choose french and I will
see many listings in french and even in english with prices in EUR GBP and USA. However I will now that those fellows SPEAK FRENCH.
If I dont´want to buy something from France I can buy something more close, like from Saudi Arabia (There are many in Arabia speaking french). And yes they speak English in Gambia.

Conclusion The French Community is not only France and part of
Switzerland. The frensc speaking skiiers in Switzerland I know
don´t even speak German but the Italian tyroles do speak german
but not english.

I limit my choises:

Example 3. (I only want to read french speaking people who only publish in french and and only have prices in EURO)

I choose the "Delcampe french community" and skip the rest of the "real french community"

Example 4. (I only want to read italian and get prices in EURO)

I choose the "italian community"

Example 5.) THE SELLER:
Question: To whom do I want to sell?
Answer: To everyone who wants to buy!
So what do I do?

I put everything for sale at the OLD delcampe.com and the buyer will find the text in ENGLISH but can communicate with me in:

All the scandinavian languages
Italian
portuguese
german
english
greek
spanish

Well I get questions in dutch and french as well
and I answer in english and they reply in french and ducth. So it works pretty well as we have "philately" in common and the Delcampe
structure makes things easy. Other subjects would be a little tricky to understand.

So what do I really suggest?

1.) Let
a.) each seller to publish every sale at delcampe.com ONLY
b.) and freely to choose currency. (EUR, GBP or USD)
Later you can open up for Canadian Dollars. Yen etc etc...
(The buyers can use the currency converter)

2.) Don´t touch delcampe.com. Let it be international

3.) Let us personalise our own delcampe.com for choises like:
a.) countries and languages or
b.) only language or
c.) only by country

PLUS a simple choise for those who likes your project of today:

d.) The new delcampe language communities ( skip the currencies and let the seller choose currency.)

WHY? PLease don´t force the canadians from Quebec to publish sales in English and let them forget the french community because US is a bigger market in general TODAY . Or shall they post their items in more than one community. Will you have that function? Or will you delete any sales which doesn´t match the language for the specific language-community? Only french in the french community ?

Example: PLease don´t exclude the french community to buy from Quebec or French speaking Africa or Arabia.

Example: Do you know that there are many in South America who speaks german but not english. How to get them together with the german speaking world? Do they have to publish their sales THREE times? In the spanish and german community and the English?

Hey, it works like this!
As a buyer:
I dont´speak french so it´s not a problem when I find a sale in
french and only a flag indication only french. I choose to try to communicate or I don´t try at all. They choise is mine

As a seller:
I want to reach the world: Especially the "New world" and I don´t want to discriminate Quebec, Arabia, Africa and New Orleans.

The language is the KEY
The market is the WORLD

Today With paypal, money bookers etc. much more people than from the "Old World, Western World bla bla bla" has the opportunity to buy and sell with the new tools. You are one of the new tools.

With my suggestions I can (as everyone else can) choose
exact the market I want to reach as a seller/buyer.
The limit will only be teh language I speak. ( or have resources for)

BUT I want to reach EVERYONE ON THE PLANET who speaks the langauges I speak without having to address them at first place in a specific language YOU have choosen for me because of language-communities with fixed currencies. That connection is not really adecvate.

Alright, I make it easy for you. Give me the option to publish
in all language communities even if the text will be in English
and a currency choosen by me ( EUR, GBP or USD. Will you, please?

Later you can ad the "My personalised Delcampe" with choises of languages and countries. When will you do it? 2007?

After South America, Africa will wake up as China has already
but not at Delcampe yet. (Do you know how many African stamps are hidden in Africa waiting for to see the sun?) You heard of
African-African business doing it in english, french or spanish?

Here´s one example: Angola and Mocambique in portuguese with a partner in Timor Este. (East Timor): How did we made it? One of the fellows spoke spanish...(as I try to learn better) and the friend of the Angolan guy spoke english and now I have more time for my spanish studies...

The north american guys are comming slowly into the understanding
that the world is not only american-english and US dollars and they also have a a great spanish community at home. Those fellows ( the north americans learning new languages or already knows wants to reach THEIR NEW WORLD. As languages are NEW WORLDS.

The english have lost the monopoly of English.

Many Africans and Arabs speaks french. But Euro? No,
CFA Franc BCEAO and US dollars please.....

So can we have "My Personalised Delcampe" for EVERYONES NEEDS?

You forgot a filter for languages, no?

so:
1.) language filter and
2.) country filter
So I can discriminate any country I like to
even if they speak any of the languages I have choosen.
(I can´t think of any country right now but oh well...)

So what can I do?
Yes I use the language filter for swedish,sorry I ment the english English,
(as that is my 2nd language and really my grammer and spelling gets
attention. Why. ´Cause some just like this Forum and it has nothing with me to do. Good, no?) Anyways so now I have filtered everything for English and still some groups are too heavy ( about 6000 items).


Perhaps we can start to give the "countries" in the West Indies names
instead of putting them under Great Britain/colonies?

Soon I will post my new list for countries/areas and new topics I suggest ´cause I miss them all. (the old list is somewhere here in the Forum) and that is only for products I have for sale. I use my fantasy for putting them here and there so please excuse me for any mess. I think I didn´t put anything under the "Lot" as that list is too big and a majority of the products are not lots. Perhaps someone else found the same problem as I did?

Face it. We are a minority !

I post this because there are almost nothing to read
in this english forum and my mothertounge will only make
things worse.

It is time for compromise as we are runnig out of time.
I only want the two options I mentioned at another place in this
english forum. That is easy like a piece of cake if someone
really cares about those not "thinking french".

I am a collector of Turkish postcards. As a Delcamper collector I cannot imagine a situation where I would not want to see an item for sale no matter what site it is on, I am delighted to see it all. Having written this there is a major difficulty. The images of the items are taking longer and longer to come up. Clearly there is a server problem and it needs to be fixed now. If it is not fixed buyers like myself will start to drift away from Delcampe because it is beginning to become a real bore to use. Ebay does not have these difficulties why should Delcampe?
Concerning language: I am starting to believe that we have got it wrong!
Research on the internet has turned up details of George Weber's article "Top Languages: The World's 10 most Inflential Languages " in Language Today(Vol2, December 1997).
In this article it is stated that 1.12 billion people speak/understand Mandarin Chinese, the number two slot is taken by English with 480 million, then comes Spanish and Russian with French in fifth place having only 265 million French speaking people world-wide. This number is followed by Hindi/Urdu, Arabic (211 million) with Portuguese at at 188 million.
In the analysis of the number of countries where English is spoken it transpires that there are 115 countries whereas for French a mere 35 countries.
This survey clearly demonstrates that English is the world dominant Western language and that French is now sadly contracted from the position it held at the beginnings of the twentieth century.
In view of these incontrovertible facts it is high time for Delcampe to 'bite the bullet' by facing up to the world today; it needs to drop French as its main language and go into English with filters for translation into French and so on.
I have found that many native speaking French Delcampers also understand a little English, education has improved over the years, even to the extent that there must ay the moment be hundreds of thousands of English speaking French and Belgian citizens now living in Central London alone, not to mention towns like Ashford in Kent.
Delcampe is clearly now trying to look outwards and surely we all wish it well. We must trust and also hope that Seb and his seven other colleagues now make the right decisions in order to ensure a future; even if it doesn't all quite work out as well as they envisaged surely it is in all our interests to support them as they try to go forward.
However please may we have the server working to industry standards? Grenville.

THE SOLUTION !

1.) delcampe.net to contains EVERYTHING:
ANY language ANY currency.

2a.) Then the sellers/buyers have an OPTION to FREELY choose additional language sites to publish their items or hunt for items.

2b.) and an PTION to FREELY skip the delcampe.net and only
choose language site/s .

P.S.S. After all, and obviously, there are som french guys who only wants to read and write french. And I think the native language of the Sed (The big boss and the owner of delcampe?) is french and he also speaks dutch without even beeing a frenchman so don´t try to make
him to skip his mothertounge and brother-language ´case he is from
Belgium, right? Let us enjoy his efforts, and by the way, there are many people over 50 years old in Sweden, Germany, France and Germany who doesn´t speak English at all. If you do speak English in South America you have an ADVANTAGE for work as almost no one speaks English so the Spanish site will be PERFECT. SO KEEP ON SED, MORE SITES!!!

When will the Scandinavian site come?

The guys over 50 in Scandinavia need delcampe.se as they have ALL Internet but a majority of them don´t speak English but they are the big majority of collectors in Scandinavia.

All Scandinavians understand, more or less, Danish, Foroyish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish so delcampe.se will be good for Danes, Samis,Swedes, Icelanders, Jamts, Finlandsswedes, Foroyers, Greenlanders, The Norse, Ålanders,Tornedalsfinns and some other finns as well. I´m waiting for news.
