French postcard series Uniforms of the 1st Empire

    OK, I've searched a bit here and don't think I see much info on this so posing a question that one of our Francophone helpers can add to.

    I have 3 envelopes with 8 postcards each inside. The title is "Les uniformes du premier empire" published under the direction of M. le Lieutnenant Bucquoy.
    It appears to be a series of 213 sets; each set covers a specific unit and year(s), series 78 is about the 1st Hussars, 1811-13 for example.
    They are all artist signed postcards; the artists vary--Benigni(?), Boely, Huen, etc.
    It appears this series came out around 1913 or 1938.

    My questions: when did it get releases? Do all 213 packets cover 1st Empire uniforms? Do all envelopes come with 8 cards each? Attached is the front of one of the envelopes; an image of a card to follow.

    here's a card; all cards I have contain the same caption format; I don't see any of these on D* currently but haven't looked at everything yet!

    A google search gives links to books which use the postcards as illustrations and/or books about the postcards but--I want more postcards!

    "Tous les collectionneurs, tous les miniaturistes, tous les amateurs d'uniformes, tous les passionnés de l'Epoque Napoléonienne connaissent, au moins de réputation, la célèbre "collection Bucquoy". Le Lieutenant Bucquoy commença en 1908 une oeuvre qu'on eût pu croire irréalisable : la publication de cartes postales reproduisant toutes les tenues militaires portées durant la période du Consulat et de l'Empire. La collection au grand complet représente 3500 figures !"

    To make it short: 3500 PCs since 1908! :shoot:

    The books published by Lt-Cl L.Y. BUCQUOY in the 1970's (probably up to 2000's) apparently include Cdt E.L. BUCQUOY's original work. I don't know how many books there are, you can find some for 30-60 €. The collection's story is probably told in some detail.

    I shall put a link to your question on our side, we have some uniforms fans (mostly WW1 though, not many PCs before that one...)

    Merci beaucoup, Manug! Hmm, the envelopes with 8 cards each may date from 1939; maybe there were 216 envelopes by 1939--which gives c.1728 postcards if there are 8/series. Maybe not all images he used were made into postcards or else someone published more cards after 1939?

    Well, thanks for the help! They are truly stunning postcards. From the backs of my 3 envelopes I have the subject of series #1-30 and #61-80; all Napoleonic-era French military units or Napoleon himself.

    I will look into the French forum for responses--I can read much better than I can express myself in French.

    Merci, Kerkallog, I have a few of those, too. Perhaps I should search for them here?

    I found them in a small town in Oregon 2 for 25 cents while waiting for a wedding to start. It was the best part of the trip!
