Buyer fees

The problem with buyers paying the buy fee is that all the sellers must delete the fee off their total, otherwise the buyer thinks the seller price is a hike. And it is. But to do this reduction by calculation for 1000 or several thousand items is a huge lot of work. The number arrived is an uneven total as well. And I would think that not many sellers have figured out they must reduce their total - by the amount of the buyer fee. Otherwise it is charged twice.

It doesn't help. I'm currently running various discounts from minus 20 to minus 50% in Store Deals on my already cheap envelopes and postcards, where I've already reduced many of my items after the introduction of the unpopular buyer's fee.
Herein Scandinavia postage is already extremely expensive
In my case, it's the high postage rate of 46 Danish kroner for letters weighing 1-100 grams.
I've had several buyers, this year alone there are already 4 buyers who have asked me to cancel everything they've bought. When they come to payment, and when they see the postage, they send an email saying that the postage is too expensive. But with the 7 US$ I take, it don't cover my expenses, and if the payment is via Paypal, there's not much left for me on a sale for US$ 1.60 because I also have to pay a fee to Paypal for the postage.
So as I see it, the buyer's fee combined with the sky-high postage will kill sales of cheap covers and postcards in this way.

I totally agree. I have always found it strange that buyers get concerned about postage the way they do. It's a reality. But some buy a $2 stamp and then see $7 postage. I introduced a $10 minimum item price years ago. And also 'item banking' where they can stack up their purchases until it can all be posted away in one package instead of one stamp in one envelope each time they buy. I got tangled up in this Mangopay thing so I can't unlock the payments without a current Passport so be warned. Even if I do, it can only be spent to buy or transferred to my local bank not Paypal. It won't do.

Like many of you, we cut all our prices by 10% back when the new Delcampe fee system kicked in during April 2024. It was our way to try softening the blow for buyers.

Over time, we added extras too—a €0.15 discount per item on orders over €30, cheaper shipping, even free registered post sometimes. But honestly, it hasn't moved the needle much. That €0.30 fixed fee per item (plus commission) just stacks up brutally on multi-item orders. The other day, we knocked €16 off a client's total before invoicing, and fees still topped €32—so even after lowering all our prices, we can't offset over 50% of Delcampe's cut.

I totally get the Scandinavian seller's point about postage sticker shock—buyers bail when they see those costs with low-value stuff like stamps or postcards. We've personally gone from 13+ weekend orders to just 3 or 4, even with 40k+ listings.

The bureaucracy has just tipped us over—Delcampe won't let us transfer the shop to my wife, who's been helping run it for years. So, our chapter here is closing. We'll share more details soon, but wanted to chip in on this post.
