    It is quite possible NOT to receive a notification email from time to time, although why this should be so is a mystery to me.
    Once a sale has ended (with bids) it will disappear from the 'ongoing' list to the 'closed' list: have you tried looking there?
    Remember also there may be a delay of a few minutes between leaving the 'ongoing' list and appearing on the 'closed' pile, depending on how busy the relevant servers are at that time.

    Note that your bidder had 24 hours to retract his bid after having done it. It may be the explanation.
