Platform fees

I used to buy a lot on Delcampe but now hardly anything since Delcampe made the change to the buyer paying the seller fees. This is ridiculous as sellers do not reduce fees for having free selling. Everything now costs more meaning sales must be well down. I see that Delcampe have a special of 50% reduction in platform fees for low value items - this will not do anything as I think buyers have left Delcampe in huge numbers since the change to buyers having to pay the seller fee. The buyer I'd expected to pay other fees as well such as postage and local taxes. All in, it is not a nice experience buying on Delcampe....with all the fees and charges it feels like you get hammered on Delcampe when you buy something. So I don't buy on Delcampe any more and will not do so until Delcampe removes platform fees for buyers. The people at the top in Delcampe who make these silly decisions like introducing platform fees for buyers have no idea.

citation: ......as sellers do not reduce fees for having free selling

this is simply incorrect, because a lot of sellers (like myself) have reduced their selling prices according to the new implemented fee structure in April 2024. This is my reaction back then, published in all forums here:

ALEA IACTA EST! (April 3rd 2024)
All my items on sale are now reduced with -7% overall and -0.17c per lot according to my previous Delcampe fees no longer charged in direct to me.
They are now forwarded by me in favor of my buyers.
But I do nont take responsability for the remaining -3% overall fee (new 10%) and +0.16c per lot (new CHF 0.33) that Delcampe is now charging to the buyer end price.
All my previously stated terms of sale will stay as they are (please see my terms)
Sorry for the rising prices, mainly as a result of Delcampe's decisions.....at their own favor, not to mine
    Greetings from Martin52......you are welcome!

I have reduced the price of my items. It was done just after the Delcampe message of the platform fees.
And my new way to reduce the price for a low to medium price items. Is to offer a tracked unregistered shipment.
    3.5 $ upto a shipment of 100 Gr.
It was not available, by the PO of Israel, until Feb/2025

Thank you for your reply and thank you for reducing your item prices to allow for buyer platform fees. However, it is clear that you are one of the few sellers who have made price reductions like this. For buyers, it is now a very negative experience on Delcampe being hit with several fees when an item is bought - these fees are often way out of line with the value of the item and do not exist on competing sites where the going is much easier. Buyers are leaving Delcampe in huge numbers and that must be affecting sellers in a large way too with greatly reduced sale quantities. It must be easier for sellers to abandon Delcampe too as well as buyers. The only question is how long Delcampe will continue with buyer platform fees as they appear to be in a death spiral for both buyers and sellers.

It is the established practice that a buyer just wants the price and not all that makes it up.

We personally reduced all our prices by 10% back in April 2024 to compensate for the new fee structure. Unfortunately, this has had virtually no impact on sales of lower-priced items.

Since then, we’ve introduced several additional incentives over the past months to make orders more attractive to buyers. But if you ask us whether it’s worked—the honest answer is: NO.

Many buyers who left the platform are unlikely to return, and new buyers are often surprised—if not discouraged—by the final invoice total.

Even the recent 50% reduction in Delcampe’s per-item fee in April hasn’t made any noticeable difference for us over the past 10 days.

In our view, the only real solution would be to revert to the fee system in place before last year’s change—but we all know that’s unlikely to happen.

Thank you for your reply. Agree 100% with everything you write. It us very discouraging for buyers with Delcampes buyer pays the sellers fee via platform fees.....many buyers have been lost and they will mot return. Like you, I also wonder why Delcampe will not revert to the fee structure that existed prior to platform fees... .I guess it comes down to one person at the top who does not want to admit he got it totally wrong.

If you buy lots of low-priced items, the fees may go higher than the cost of items.

E.g. I have some items in my basket right now where total cost is ~55 EUR. And platform fees on top of that are ~38 EUR.

This is sick. No way I am finishing that purchase unless there is "50% off fees" promotion or something like this.

I have just bought some 100+ photos of about Eur0.84 each, so the total came to about Eur90 and the platform charges invoiced Eur47.90! Add to that Eur32 for shipping and this is absolutely a ridiculous deal! I have messaged the seller telling him that these are crazy charges that if I knew it initially, I would had not bothered to buy.
I had been on eBay since 2003 and buy a lot there. Been on Delcampe before, stopped for a bit and now when back, these platform charges!
So, it is sad that I want the photos and the seller is happy to sell them, as they are hard to sell, but now I have requested to cancel the deal due to these exorbitant platform charges.
I think Delcampe is shooting itself in the foot with this charging model. They forget that the buyer has the money, not the seller. They should not kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. That is what they are doing right now.
For me, happy to continue on eBay, they are less greedy that Delampe.

It's possible, that seller of the same items on ebay would list it for higher price. On ebay seller pays 0.30 + many other fees,so they would include it in a price of the item.
Here you should see the total price for each item which is include all the fees. You couldn't miss you, esp. when buying 100 items. Ebay is not less greedy, but THE greedy. They charge fees on taxes, taxes on fees and other additional charges.
By end of the day,as a buyer you have to see what is a total without looking into fees and taxes.

    STOP!!!!!
I've been on Delcampe since 2010. This year, sales have been a disaster, although before Delcampe was ahead of all other platforms where I participate in sales.
The buyer should see two numbers - the price of the item and the shipping costs.
Why does he need to pay additional platform fees?
    That's the seller's business.....
The seller should calculate those costs into the price of his item.
I would like to stay on Delcampe. However, if Delcampe's policy continues to be the same (additional platform fees from the buyer) - I will have to leave.....

you could contact with seller and tell the seller what you need. Then you require that the seller make them as one thing to sell. That will save your fee(only 0.36+10%)

Hello. While I thank you for your reply, it will not save anything much at all, so the problem of the buyer paying the sellers listing and selling fees still remains. The decision by Delcampe for the buyer to pay platform fees that should be the responsibility of the seller must be really hurting Delcampe with very low sale volumes. It all comes back to one very bad decision by one person at the top of Delcampe who probably will not want to admit that he got it all wrong. In the meantime, a lot of damage is done with many of the buyers who have left Delcampe for other sites where the going is much easier like ebay and hipstamps lost forever.

For example, you buy 10 items,1$ per item. The total is 10$.According to the delcampe rule, the platform fee is 0.36*10+10*10%=4.36$.But if the seller make it as one thing to sell 10$.The platform fee is 0.36+10*0.1=1.36$.You could save 3$.
