Wikipedia:

Professeur agrégé de philosophie à Nancy, disciple de Kant, il a pour élève Maurice Barrès et Paul Claudel qui l'admira malgré des idées divergentes. Professeur au lycée Louis-le-Grand à Paris, il est nommé chef de cabinet de Paul Bert lorsque celui-ci est nommé ministre de l'Instruction publique en novembre 1881. Il est élu député du Rhône de 1885 à 1894. Le 13 juillet 1892, à la suite de la démission de Godefroy Cavaignac, il est nommé ministre de la Marine et des Colonies dans le gouvernement Émile Loubet, fonction qu'il conserve jusqu'au 11 janvier 1893. L'administration des colonies étant transférée du ministère du commerce à celui de la marine, Burdeau est secondé par Émile Jamais, sous-secrétaire d'État au ministère de la Marine et des Colonies, chargé des colonies. Burdeau est ensuite ministre des Finances dans le cabinet de Casimir-Perier de 1893 à 1894. Il est élu président de la Chambre des députés le 5 juillet 1894, mais il meurt cinq mois plus tard. Il est inhumé au cimetière du Père-Lachaise (65^e division).

Maurice Barrès le décrit sous le personnage d'un professeur de philosophie Paul Bouteiller dans son Roman de l'énergie nationale.
