I'm totally p**d off as well. Another planned day down the pan.

Alternative sites are more welcoming the more these problems grind on without resolution. I'm at the stage of listing elsewhere and have started to do so and unless Delcampe gets its act together soon more of my listings will migrate to other sites.

For a few weeks, we are really working on reviving the site and stabilize it. But very bad things have been done in the past and the task is huge...

I cannot comprehend this statement 'very bad things have been done in the past and the task is huge'. You were responsible in the past surely?

Only last week you were suggesting that things would stabilise with 7 days or so with the new invoicing system which no one really wanted.

Now, the 'task is huge'! It just doesn't sound very encouraging. We persevere with the site as problem after problem is reported ... and all we are really looking for is a period of stability!

?? Stability & image issues have existed for over 3 years. What is the timetable for getting things completely right or will the site just continue to limp along shedding sellers and buyers till there is nothing left?

This is not a facetious comment - I would love the site to return to the good site it used to be but right now the light at the end of the tunnel seems to have been turned off.

I guess my frustration is that I thought that this 'image' loading problem was something that had been worked on and was largely resolved.

Like many others I'm sure, I have listings uploaded but 'waiting to be processed' into the system.

And this problem in Seb's words is 'huge' requiring 6 techies to resolve ... and clearly still ongoing. Unbelievable really.

I'm staggered that I'm still making some sales!

We do all what we can presently to keep the site running for your buyers. Just images upload is prevented and sometime images display too. This is a severe difficulty we are facing, not easy to solve, and nothing to do with programming. A machine is causing problems now

It seems okay for 20 mins now. I enabled back all functionalities of the site.

We found a workaround, but we could not address the main problem itself. Not sure it will last on the long term.

    We keep watching the situation.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Make that 5+ years.

I joined the site in 2008. May/June 2009 I obtained a really exciting collection, which took me about 6 months to list (June to early December) - right throughout that summer it was a good thing that I was usually on my own while listing, because many a word was uttered, that I wouldn't want anyone to hear coming from my mouth, because the listing process would grind to a halt when trying to upload the image(s).

Since then we have seen short periods of stability, but most of the time we have been faced with one challenge or another.

Instead of getting to the bottom of this issue (which still exists today after nearly 5 years), site "improvements" were conjured up, such as: hiding sellers t&c's under tabs, sane listing, charging 8/10p per listing (removing good sellers of low value items from the site), Delcampe Premium (double listing highly overpriced stuff; free for the first year for a few "chosen" sellers), API, etc.

In the meanwhile, both here and on the French forum people have been complaining about a decline in sales. The number of items sold in May this year was again down by a significant percentage, compared to May last year, as has been the case for every single month so far this year.

Sebastien's reason for this was "seasonable" - sorry May last year was in the same season as May this year and so were the other 4 months of this year - not an argument that stands!

I'm away on my travels again and am not listing at the moment. I logged in really early this morning to check what items had to be posted and was unaware of any problems today until I received an email from someone. Just as well, because my patience is running out rapidly with the continuing issues.

Unless things settle down in the near future, I may well pack it in altogether. Online selling has been mostly a hobby for me, but a hobby is something that one enjoys doing - there is no enjoyment left in it here on Delcampe and unfortunately I have not been able to find any reasonable alternative.

Thanks, Mainly.....I had scrolled through the technical problems topic and did note that there were severe image upload problems back in 2008 (fixed of course!?) but that the other stability problems were a wee bit more recent.

My sales on other collectors sites are all up, some quite substantially. This is probably because most of my newer listings went elsewhere during 2014 because of site instability issues here. I have several thousand items to list now from my summer buying spree but cannot see the mileage in even attempting to list many of them here....we have an admission from Seb that the problem is 'huge' so I fear for the deterioration in my own business by relying too much on Delcampe.

And, like you, this is really a profitable hobby for me. Thus the main criteria are good marketplace, site stability & enjoyment.

Time to send in the Daleks I think.......

"But very bad things have been done in the past and the task is huge..."

    ^^^^^^ THIS!

After an 18 month "separation", I thought I'd give this place a second chance... but like getting back with an ex-girlfriend, one is quickly reminded of why we parted company in the first place. The result: frustration, a sense of loss, and irritation with oneself for falling again for the same old ....

Oh, well, time to re-think and redirect my summer work schedule to places elsewhere for now.

Thanks, at least, for simplifying my decision-making and workload.

    Hello,

    Please check the attached image.

The image system is up 99.964% of the time in 2014. Of course, this is not 100%, but it is not as bad...

I perfectly agree that the site is not stable at certain times, but in more than 99% of the time, it is. I understand the frustration it could give.

The situation is very difficult for us too, and please believe us, it is our own interest to have the site better running!

    Hello again,

I do not understand why you say that we perform now less good than last year.

Please see the attached graph. Until end of 2013, we did less than the previous year, begin 2014 was better than previous year, and now we do around the same.

Of course, we should always try to do better, but this is not that bad, in regard to the current situation.

A last information (then I go back working on the server with the team). In the last 24 hours, 193328 new items have been uploaded. This is our #5 record.

    (
    Previous ones:
    10/04/2014 234,756
    11/04/2014 230,882
    03/02/2014 205,006
    23/01/2014 199,670
    )

This is more than 2 new items every second since yesterday.

So you see, that problematic machine is still handling a huge load today, despite its difficulties ;)

    Sebastien,

I don't want to enter into a long discussion and/or argument over figures.

Your 99.964% for 2014 would mean 1 hour 20 minutes of problems during 2014. I think every seller would agree with me that it has been considerably more than that. Yesterday alone, the banner was across the top of the page for most of the day. And it is not just image problems or complete down time I was talking about, but glitches/problems of all types. During the 1st attempt to install the new invoice system, the entire payment system went down for about 10 hours until you managed to revert back to the old set-up. The 2nd attempt has also caused many hours of disruption.

As far as the sales figures is concerned: These are the numbers you showed on the front page and are the reason I made the statement about falling sales (of course I am talking about number of items sold and you graph may be showing total value of items)

    Jan 13: 662627 Jan14: 640346
    Feb13: 607543 Feb14: 594620
    mar13: 665536 Mar14: 625032
    Apr13: 589654 Apr14: 536465
    May13: 572903 May14: 539172

Total number of items sold Jan to May 2013 = 3098263
Total number of items sold Jan to May 2014 = 2935635

    A drop of 162628 or 5.25%

I wonder if 99.964% relates only to the times the site was completely down (not being able to access the site at all), and ignores all the times when only parts of the site weren't working?

Of course, when parts of the site aren't working, Delcampe becomes pretty useless....

Sebastien states: The image system is up 99.964% of the time in 2014.

However, we all know that there have been many other issues other than the "image system" and as you say, when parts of the site aren't working, for certain actions it may as well be down altogether, i.e. a site where someone buys something, but cannot make a payment is not much use.
