BOLIVIAN FOLKLORE:
DANCE OF THE MORENADA. MORENADA OF THE GREAT POWER.
The Morenada or los Morenos dance is a dance of the high plateau area of Bolivia where
the dancers are disguised as Black masked with exaggerated features.
The place must of its origin and symbology is tried of put in debate recently. The
assertion that the morenada was born in Oruro was carried out by the researcher and
Chairman of the Committee of Ethnographyand culture, based on research he did
through documents, indicated that the morenos were coming from able, they gambled
on the outskirts of the city, to make the Saturday before the Sunday of Carnival, its
devotional entry until you reach the sanctuary of the tunnel. According to the Prefecture
of the Department Bolivian of the peace would have been the settlers of the peninsula
of Taraco, who created this dance, this hypothesis of Taraco is recent. There is even a
hypothesis that this dance originated in the Department of Potosí.
This dance takes great strength in the Carnival of Oruro, the second Carnival more
famous of Latin America; declared by UNESCO "Teacherof the Oral and Intangible
Heritage of humanity" and in the city of La Paz on the feast of the great power. However this dance also is performed in various festivals and events of Bolivia.
In June 2011 through a Supreme Decree, the morenada was declaredCultural Heritage and intangible of the plurinational State of Bolivia; According to the Government agency,
this measure was taken to stop theattempts of appropriation by neighbouring countries

La Morenada o Danza de los Morenos es una danza de la zona altiplanica de Bolivia donde los bailarines se disfrazan como negros enmascarados con rasgos exagerados.
El lugar preciso de su origen y simbología se trato de poner en debate recientemente. La afirmacion de que la morenada nacio en Oruro fue realizada por el investigador y presidente del Comité de etnografía y cultura, sustentado en las investigaciones que hizo a través de documentos, indico que los morenos eran venidos de Sillota, se apostaban en las afueras de la ciudad, para que el sabado antes del domingo de Carnaval, hagan su entrada devocional, hasta llegar al Santuario del Socavon. Según la Prefectura del Departamento Boliviano de La Paz habrían sido los pobladores de lapenínsula de Taraco, quienes crearon esta danza, esta hipotesis de Taraco es reciente. Incluso hay hipotesis de que esta danza se origino en el departamento de Potosí.
Esta danza adquiere gran fuerza en el Carnaval de Oruro, el segundo carnaval mas famoso de Latinoamérica; declarado por la UNESCO "Obra Maestra del Patrimonio Oral e Intangible de la Humanidad" y en la ciudad deLa Paz en la Fiesta del Gran Poder. Sin embargo esta danza también es realizada en diversas festividades y eventos de Bolivia.
En junio de 2011 a través de un Decreto Supremo, la morenada fue declarada Patrimonio Cultural e Inmaterial del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia; según el ente gubernamental, esta medida fue tomada para frenar los intentos de apropiacion por parte de países vecinos
