ULTRA RARE !!!
Original autographs of the Yugoslavia national football team on Summer Olympic Games Helsinki 1952 - Olympic silver medal winners.
This postcard was sent from Helsinki by Zlatko "Čik" Čajkovski (Tchaikovsky), a celebrated national team member, winner of two Olympic silver medals at the 1948 London Olympics and 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Later, as a coach, "Čik" achieved his greatest successes as a coach of FC Bayern München, 1. FC Köln and Kickers Offenbach.
He sent the postcard to his brother Željko Cajkovski, who was also a famous Yugoslav football player, celebrated national team member, winner of an Olympic silver medal at the 1948 London Olympics.
I think I can recognize the autographs of Zlatko Tchaikovsky, Vladimir Beara, Stjepan Bobek, Branko Zebec, Rajko Mitić, Branko Stanković, Ivan Horvat, ... etc.
Please, take a look for yourself and try to recognize the autographs of individual players.
The soccer team of Yugoslavia won the silver Olympic medal at these Olympic Games.
This Yugoslavian team, probably the best in history, played a great football tournament, only losing in the final to the since undisputed Hungarian team with Puskas. On the way to the final, Yugoslavia also played the famous second match against the former USSR team - "match of death" between Yugoslavia and the USSR (5:5) played on 07/20/1952. at the Olympics in Tampere (Finland). The match was played at a time of extreme political tension between the former Yugoslavia and Stalin's USSR after the resolution of the Informbiro. Reuters announced the football match as the match of the century.
Even today, connoisseurs claim that the national team of Yugoslavia at that time was the best team that ever played in this area. Here is the composition:
Vladimir Beara
Branko Stanković
Tomislav Crnković
Zlatko Čajkovski
Ivan Horvat
Vujadin Boškov
Tihomir Ognjanov
Rajko Mitić
Bernard Vukas
Stjepan Bobek
Branko Zebec
In that match, Yugoslavia led even with 5:1. Goals were scored by: Mitić in the 29th minute, Ognjanov in the 33rd, Zebec in the 44th, Bobek in the 46th and Zebec again in the 59th minute. But what is a ball! And Informbiro! From the 75th minute, our team conceded four goals.
In regular time it was 5:5, and overtime did not change the result.
The second match will be played. Two days later, on July 22, at the same place.
The same team ran onto the field again, Yugoslavia won 3:1. Yugoslavia returned home with a silver Olympic medal.
It is interesting that the same eleven players played in all six games.
