Major outage this weekend

Dear members,

Since Saturday morning, the Delcampe website has been the target of a major DDoS attack, which has severely disrupted its operation.

Our technicians have of course been working tirelessly to restore the situation. However, it was extremely difficult for us to communicate directly via the website, as it was very slow and, most of the time, completely inaccessible.

A first solution was implemented during Saturday evening, allowing us to partially restore access to the website.

What is a DDoS attack?
It is an attack designed to make an online service unavailable by deliberately sending an enormous number of simultaneous connections to it.

To use a simple analogy: imagine a restaurant that normally serves 100 customers. Suddenly, 50,000 people arrive at the same time and all try to enter. The restaurant becomes completely overwhelmed, and the 100 regular customers can no longer get in. This is, in a way, what happened to our servers.

In recent times, a great many websites have unfortunately been targeted by this type of attack. We are therefore far from being an isolated case, even though this obviously does not make the situation any less inconvenient for our members and our teams.

We would also like to reassure you on one important point: this was not a breach of our servers, and no compromise of data has been detected. The purpose of the attack is to deliberately overload our infrastructure in order to make the website difficult or even impossible to use.

Work is continuing this Sunday. The situation has improved significantly, however it is not yet completely stable and further slowdowns or disruptions may still occur.

Our teams are of course continuing to work actively to restore completely normal service.

Thanks for this message. I thought the issue was on my end. I switched to a new router and thought there was a problem on my end. I was trying everything to no avail. It didn't help Google AI and one of those down detector websites said the site was fine. Stupid AI.

Since a long time, I have adopted the "general idea": Delcampe is again down or slow or whatever else? Calm down, get to your things, they will fix it. Of course, it's a shame to lose a whole day right in the middle of something you were doing on site. But there's always something else to do. Most importantly, I know I should not dig into my poor PC trying to heal it, torturing it and getting into a big trouble as a result

Right after DC's hit us with another round of constant notifications, we get this. You rarely see major other platforms point to a DDoS attack when their systems go down. Given how often routine updates or maintenance trigger site glitches here, it's difficult for the community to distinguish external attacks from standard backend failures. After years of technical excuses from a platform that’s been around this long, it’s hard to take these announcements at face value. Speaking as a member of 12+ years, this persistent instability has broken my trust in their official statements on such events.

Not really new features, rather they are combined now - not a big deal. But I know what you mean.
