No, but at least there is an admission that what they had wasn't fit for purpose.

We will wait with anticipation & dread, and not necessarily in that order, to see what comes next.:whiteflag:

Delcampe, please leave this system as it is. It is perfect and no need for "improvements". Really. Do not destroy things which are working well. Please!

    I'll say the same.

Don't touch the old system, because it works perfect.

The new system was leaving my sold auctions in a total chaos.

Be very careful about invoicing - I noted a glitch or two.
Check your invoices to ensure that no old 'paid for' purchases aren't being picked up too. Also, any notes on the invoice that used to be picked up (carried forward) are gone. Certainly this has been the case on the FEW invoices I've just sent out. Sales down today!

I've just invoiced 2 buyers, and it seems to be ok, but this morning everything (YES EVERYTHING)was total chaos with 2-3 years old sold, paid and sent items on the list of items not sent and also some on the list as not invoiced.
But the worst thing was that many of my sold but not sent items was disappeared from my list (I have a buyer with 14 bought items), but only 4 was on the list)
So SEBASTIAN please don't change this old system.
I have just looked the videos, and for me it seems to be 10 steps backwards.
We all want to get more buyers on Delcampe but the videos will surely keep a lot of new buyers away from Delcampe.

It is still the best site for getting sales (after the big one), but they are really testing their sellers to the limit and I am glad that I have a decent chunk of stock on one other site, even though sales are still very low there.

Was the phrase from the old 60's song 'Blowing in the Wind'.....'when will they ever learn'? From past experience - never, but here's hoping.

Someone at D seems to have forgotten basic business practices and has regular glitches due in part to sloppy programming, inadequate testing, fixing things that do not need fixing and ignoring the premise that it is the seller who is 'king' NOT the site. No sellers....no site - simple stuff really.

As I have said before, I transferred 90% of my online business to D 4 years ago after I moved from UK and found that I was actually losing money on the 'other' site.

Regular and repetitive glitches on Delcampe started, I think, back in 2012 and over the intervening months seem to have got worse and worse. It remains a mystery to me how any website could slip from No 1 in content & professionalism to well down the list in such a short period of time! It will take months and months to restore seller confidence in the site.

Like many others,I was obliged to start listing on other sites due to the constant problems at D in order to retain my existing income (not because I wanted to, because I am basically lazy).

I have to say that D remained my No 1 sales quantity and value until November 2013 but now lags behind a bit. I would dearly love to return to selling only on D but my crystal ball does not indicate that this is practicable yet.

But if the Delcampr philatelic and numismatic business is only the cover :) and we all are simply puppets in the shadow play.

Of course it's a very cynical joke:)

This experiment showed that this site is not a commercial enterprise but a programmer's way to fulfil unattainable ambitions - unattainable because of poorly designed main database, impossible-to-formalize category structure, lack of professional tools to interact with the site (do not tell me about API!), UnEasyLister which does not work in general meaning of this word and with those constant "improvements" which always end in some type of inconvenience or disaster.

I was stupid enough to invest almost £14 into software which manages all Delcampe listings and sales in the absence of API - another st***d Delcampe rule that API is for use by professional sellers only - Hey Seb, do only professionals generate your income? With this "improvement " this money has gone.

After this "improvement" I looked around and found that a professional shop with FREE LISTING (yes, FREE!) on the BIG site is £250 per month only - worth of 5 years of my lost money!!!!!

The decision - in the future move everything to THE place without st***d rules and ruthless programmer's experiments.

Wish you good luck do make the right decision.

    Benjamin,

Thank you for the message of explanation and apology.

    Regrettably, the message does not make any reference to the following;

    1. Why was it considered necessary to change the system at all?
The old system appeared to be working very well, and the reaction of the many people who have responded to the debacle of yesterday are virtually unanimous in that.

    2. Why does the new system not address the needs of the users?
The one thing I saw which was plainly missing was a simple listing of items sold, no matter what their status of payment / despatch / whatever. Instead we have the 'breakdown of sales types' without the FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT thing, a LIST OF SALES.

    3. What users tested the system & were they genuine sellers or internal staff members?
Unless any system is tested by the ACTUAL users, it is virtually certain to fail and / or not be accepted by the members.

Nobody, myself included, is against change, where it brings a positive benefit, however, yesterday's changes appeared to deliver nothing actually new, apart from cosmetic changes.

I would be happy to volunteer to be a tester, if required, so perhaps it would be a good idea to ask a number of the larger store holders to volunteer their services to assist both Delcampe & its members.

    Sam
