Historical Description :

The Fung Sultanate was established in 1504 (by some accounts, founded around 1493), centered in Sennar, and played a central role in unifying much of central Sudan under a powerful Islamic monarchy. It became a hub of Islamic learning, trade, and architecture, lasting until the 19th century.
The Abdallab Sheikhdom, contemporaneous with the Fung Sultanate, was an influential religious and tribal authority in northern and central Sudan. The Abdallab were known for their Islamic scholarship, mediation in tribal conflicts, and cooperation with successive Sudanese states.

This 1993 issue commemorates these pivotal historical institutions that helped shape Sudan's religious and political identity.
