    Why do families do this?

Once brought an album at auction. Sold some of the cards online and imagine the surprise of one the buyer's when he got the cards and looked at the back, only to find they had been sent by his grandparents. Needless to say that he ended up buying all the remaining cards from the collection.

Hope your buyer has luck in finding some of the collection.

My FIL kept all the postcards he'd been sent by his parents/grandparents/aunties as a child. Mostly stored in boxes.

When he passed away, we went through them and kept the ones with interesting messages and/or images, including one complete album, but sold the rest. That's actually how I got into selling postcards.
