Hi I have this lovely Swiss card can anyone identify the town/City?

It is a very animated privately made postcard. There are no clues on the reverse but there appears to be clues in the sign near the traffic policeman Basel is 2 Miles/kms away, Bern is 10 away, Zurich , Brunig and Engelberg 4 away and Gotthard 2 away.

There are also some large buildings. Looks like a cathedral at the back??

Hoping to do well on this one when I get the place!

If someone could ask on the Swiss forum if there is one?!

    Thanks Plumpostcards

I'm talking about distances on a map - I've had a close look on Google maps and it's possible these are road numbers rather than distances, so it might provide more of a clue.

I tries one or two likely-looking towns but the images don't match your card

That is interesting it might be road numbers. Do you think the card is interesting itself? What value would you give to this card??

Is there a Swiss forum I could post it on??

    Thanks Plumpostcards

To me it is only of passing interest as I don't bother with 'foreign' cards, but to others it may be, especially if it turns out to be a smaller, less significant town than what we usually see on cards

I don't think there's a Swiss forum, but you might try posting on the French, German or Italian forums

It looks like they are road numbers, which gives a likely town of Lucerne (Lausanne), but I haven't been able to find an image of the very distinctive large building (cathedral?) in the background.

I think that large dome in the background could be Lucerne railway station

Hi you may be right. The domed building in the background could be Lucerne railway Station building Bahnhof. Do you think this is correct.

This view although a little blurred could be of some interest to a Swiss collector, if it shows a different view of the city from the 1930s.

This card is nice in some ways as it shows the hustle and bustle going on which I personally like.

What do people think is it like the domed station in Lucerne?

    Thanks Plumpostcards

I would say unless the Swiss built all their stations to the same pattern, then the similarity between your picture and this one are pretty definitive

The building in the looks slightly different on the top, with the glass and shape of the roof but I suppose there could have been some adjustments as my card is 1930s but the postcard you sow is say 20-30 years older?

The general designs of the buildings look very similar though, I may list under list Lucerne and describe as possibly Lucerne??

If you are not convinced yet that it's Lucerne search for Kapellenbrucke and compare the tower in the far left of your picture with the tower at the start of the bridge (not the one in the middle of the bridge).
