The Aircraft Manufacturing Company (Airco) was established in Hendon in 1912 by George Thomas Holt.

Two years later Geoffrey de Havilland joined as Chief Designer and many successful aircraft designs followed. As military orders dried-up Airco was declared bankrupt in 1920

You missed out languages and other alphabets such as Greek, Cyrillic, Ukrainian, Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese and so on....

Then you have to take the square of that number if you deal in philately also

All in all, it all helps to keep your brain sharp and your mind active and that's got to be good - perhaps we need to instigate a Delcampe Pub Quiz League to capitalize on all this accumulated knowledge?

"and I enjoy EVERY minuet of it"

Ah, but you have a helper for the tedious (sp?) bits, like filing, retrieving and mailing.

In my experience postcards are considerably harder to mislay than stamps, where a sneeze or even a gentle zephyr wafting through the window (or in my case, a howling north-easterly down the Troutbeck valley) can create havoc

Cards do go AWOL occasionally but in general cards = one box or another or pile on desk and stamps = stockcard or stockbook or perhaps that shelf in the spare room or...

We downsized when we moved here but I seriously need to upsize again just to house all the boxes of "why on earth did I buy that?", or get a Narnia-style wardrobe with a false back into another world

My friend has a similar problem - I don't think the feet on her desk have touched the floor for the last fifteen years, all the stuff she has piled underneath it

I went into stamps and postcards after her ladyship complained about all the space my mineral and fossil collection took up - now that is SERIOUS space (and weight)!

I started off with books - likewise they require a lot of space.

    And muscles!

Some people pay a lot in gym fees to get the sort of exercise we subject ourselves to daily.
