    Hi there,
There is an interesting question on the French postcards forum:
    Link (http)
Pictures of a tent camp somewhere, with clues such as YMCA, kilts, "United We Stand" and a Japanese flag!
Just looking at the pics might give some of you an idea, and I could translate any specifics.
The usual questions: where, when, who, why?

    Bye
    Manu

I've been following the thread in the French forum. My belief is that the cards are a WWI Allied camp. "United We Stand" was one of the slogans used during that war, too. That flag does look like a WWII Japanese flag; I don't believe it was used in WWI. I'm more sure that the cards are WWI than I am that there is a Japanese flag there. (It may be something else, not a flag.)

You French collectors seem so good at identifying a bridge or hillside; if no one recognizes the countryside with the lake, then it may be in Great Britain, not France.

The YMCA provided support for troops in camps in the rear, not just for POWs (I believe).

Yes, the French sent troops to Russian during the Russian Civil War; these cards definitely look more British Commonwealth than American. The British were mostly in the Northwest of Russia--the Karelian Peninsula, not Siberia--and this doesn't look like that area. (it may be, but I doubt it.)

Are there any other questions that I've missed?

    Hi Alan and thank you!
    I shall transmit these informations.
Meanwhile, we got to see the back of the cards: 1918 all right!
One is written in French, probably by a Canadian.
Would LA RESERVE as a motto or name for Canadian troops?
Please have a look if you wish...
