United States, Scott #5760, used(o), 2023, Commemorating Historic Railroad Stations, stamp shows the Santa Fe Station in San Bernardino, California, opened in 1918, it was advertised as the largest railroad station west of the Mississippi River; the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad had arrived in San Bernardino in 1886 and built a wood-frame station; after a fire destroyed the structure in 1916, company architect W.H. Mohr designed its replacement in the Mission Revival style, adding Moorish elements; into the 1950s, the San Bernardino rail depot served as an important gateway for thousands of Americans migrating to California, especially from Midwestern and Southern states; the Santa Fe Railroad turned its passenger service over to Amtrak in 1972 and the station became idle; two decades later the city bought the old station and added a Metrolink commuter rail service; since the completion of extensive renovations in the early 2000s, the Santa Fe Station houses local government offices and a railroad museum, in addition to its local commuter rail service, issued as a 'forever' stamp at a counter price of 63 cents, lithography and photogravure printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive gum on multiple stamp panes, phosphorus tagged, multicolored, Scott Supplemental Catalog Value: 40¢, nicely centered, very light, broken-up, large fancy script horizontal message cancel over the top half of the stamp, however, the lightness of the cancel and its broken-up effect leaves the main image remarkably clear, good perforations, stamp was removed from its mailing envelope using a Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for a uniform and attractive album appearance; centering, mounting, and largely image free cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.55 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.68 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used. If not satisfied, return the stamp to me at your own expense, and I will refund the cost, but not my postage to you. If the stamp is not as described, I will refund the cost and reimburse you for postage both ways.
