Scarce.
The designs are as follows:
1. Monopoly Bureau of the Governor-General’s Office (NT$8): Situated in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District, the building was begun in 1913 and completed in 1923. The interlinear red and white of the walls in mock Victorian red brick style and the magnificent central tower are eye-catching. It is now the headquarters of Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation.
2. Former Tainan Waterworks (NT$8): Situated in Tainan’s Shanshang District, the building was begun in 1912 and completed in 1922. “Waterwork” is the old name for the supply of drinking water. The purification water pond is enclosed in a grey building composed of natural rock and mock stone slabs, lying set into the hill like a castle. It stands as a token of the historical development towards modern sanitary waterworks.
3. Yinshan Temple (NT$8): Situated in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, and built in 1822 as the Dingzhou Guildhall, the temple is evidence of the historical role of settlement in Taiwan by people from Dingzhou. The external appearance of the building is well preserved as also are the clay sculptures of the roof ridge. It is the only temple in the Western Fujian style of Dingzhou to be found in Taiwan.
4. Ruins of the Fengshan City (NT$8): Situated in Kaohsiung’s Zuoying District, the Fengshan City began as an earthen wall in 1722 and was replaced by stone in 1826. Including the east, south and north gates as well as part of the walls, moat, the Zhenfu Temple and the Gongchen Well lying outside the north gate, it was the first city wall in Taiwan built of stone.
