from Ipanema").
As a poet he wrote
the lyrics of
many songs that
have become classics.
As a performer, he
participated in many
records. He was also a
diplomat in Brazil.

14

he began

law
in
Rio
de
Janeiro.

1932
he
wrote
the
letters
of
ten
songs
that
were
recorded
by
the
Tapajós
brothers.

studies,

his
books

distance
(1933)
and

Later
(1935)
he began
to
work
as
a
film
censor
and
wrote
his
third
book
Ariana,

(1936).
Como poeta escribió la letra de un gran número de
canciones que se han convertido en clásicas. Como intérprete,
participó en muchos discos. También fue diplomático de
Brasil. Nacido
en el seno de una familia aficionada a la música, de Moraes comenzó
a escribir poesía a una edad temprana. A los 14 años se hizo amigo
de los hermanos Paulo y Haroldo Tapajós y compuso con este
último Loura
ou Morena,
su primera canción. En1929,
comenzó a estudiar derecho en Río de Janeiro. A partir
de 1932 escribió
las letras de diez canciones que fueron grabadas por los hermanos
Tapajós. Cuando finalizó sus estudios, publicó sus
libros Caminho
para a distância (1933)
y Forma
e exégese.
Más tarde (1935)
comenzó a trabajar como censor cinematográfico y escribió su tercer
libro Ariana,
a mulher (1936).
