The Ötztal runs in a north-south direction and with its 65 km
length of the longest side valley of the Inn Valley.
The valley separates the Stubai Alps in the east of the
Oetztal Alps in the west. The name of the Oetztal
arose after Oetz auxiliary court of the valley was
designated. About 45 km west of Innsbruck Ötztal Ache
flows at an altitude of 670 m above sea level at the Inn, in a
mountain avalanche landscape Tschirgant between Haiming and
Roppen. The village of Ötztal-Bahnhof Haiming of the
town originated with the construction of the Arlberg railway line
and forms the entrance to the valley
From north to south are several terraces present, where the
landscape and the climate ranges from orchards and cornfields at
the entrance of the valley to vast glacial plains deep stretch in
the valley in the dalterrassen, which are separated by gaps and
constrictions of another, is the dalbekkens Oetz,
Umhausen, Langenfeld, Sölden Zwieselstein out. In
Zwieselstein splits (German: zwieselt) the main valley in the
Gurgltal and Ventertal. In the Gurgltal Timmelstal
flows, in which Timmelsjoch, the mountain pass towards Merano
(Italian: Merano) in South Tyrol, located. The
terraces were created in the outer and middle part of the valley by
mountain avalanches, rock masses which the Ötztal Ache forced again
and again to look. Another stream bed At the height of
Langenfeld stroke still Sulztal off, where the village of Gries im
Sulztal is located. Only about 7% of the entire Ötztal
is inhabited
