Follis 595 - 596 frappé à Antioche : 11,62 grammes ; 28 mm de diamètre
A/ Buste couronné de maurice Tibère de face vêtu du manteau impérial tenant la mappa (tissus utilisé pour donner le départ des courses de char) et un sceptre surmonté d’un aigle.
R/ ANNO / X III (an 14) de part et d’autre d’un grand M surmonté d’une croix et en dessous A (marque d’officine). A l’exergue THEUP’.
Sear 533.
Le grand M signifie 40 dans la numérotation grecque. Ce follis possédait ainsi une valeur de 40 nummi.
Au revers la ville d’antioche est nommée THEUOPolis. Sous le règne de Justinien I (517 – 565) la ville d’Antioche connut deux grandes catastrophes. En 526 un tremblement de terre qui aurait fait 250.000 morts la détruisit et en 540, elle fut prise et pillé par les Perses qui déportèrent une grande partie de la population chez eux. Après ces malheurs, Justinien la reconstruisit avec une superficie réduite en lui donnant le nom de Théoupolis (cité de dieu).
