Trasformare un villaggio - in quel luogo e con la tecnologia di allora - in una cittdiventata Serenissima Repubblica e Regina dell?Adriatico fa pensare che quell?idea e la tenacia di portarla avanti nei secoli appartengano piall?immaginazione che alla realtstorica. Ecco perchcerti accadimenti che vi si verificarono sfumano nella zona vaga che si colloca tra storia e fantasia dove possono realizzarsi eventi straordinari.
Qui viene narrata la storia di Aloisio Vignali, alchimista del XVI secolo. La sua vita si intreccia con quella di Geo Dalvise, giovane ricercatore del XXI secolo, in un intreccio convulso e affascinante dove il giallo si combina con l?horror, la magia con la fisica nucleare, l?amore con il feticismo, l?utopia con l?ignoranza e la ragion di stato. Ma non solo. Altre forze entrano nel gioco rimbalzando nel tempo.
E tutto ciavviene in una cittche, secondo coerenza e razionalit non potrebbe esistere.
La luce dell?alba si sarebbe fatta attendere a lungo. Frange di nebbia calavano sin dentro i canali scivolando sulla superficie dell?acqua. Gidue volte la barca aveva avuto uno scossone improvviso, si era trattato di corpi di annegati nudi e gonfi, orribili nel loro biancore grigiastro che gipreannunciava la putrefazione. Le pale dei remi stracciavano i ghirigori di nebbia, provocavano tonfi soffocati, fruscii liquidi e gorgogliamenti che, nel silenzio, sembravano un parlottare sommesso in una lingua misteriosa. Quando udiva quei suoni, Aloisio non poteva fare a meno di pensare quanto tempo sarebbe stato ancora necessario per catturare il loro messaggio criptico ma fondamentale per svelare il mistero che avvolgeva il concepimento, la gestazione e la nascita di quella cittimpossibile e soprattutto il significato della Grande Opera.
