MOUETTE (Germain). Histoire des conquestes de Mouley Archy, connu sous le nom de Roy de Tasilet ; et de Mouley Ismaël, ou Seméin son frère, & son Successeur à présent Regnant. Tous deux Rois de Fez, de Maroc, de Tafilet, de Sus, &c. Contenant une description de ces Royaumes, des Loix, des Coustumes, & des Mœurs des Habitans. Paris : Edme Couterot, 1683. Veau brun, dos à nerfs orné (reliure de l’époque).
Édition originale dédiée au marquis de Torcy de cette histoire des royaumes de Fez et de Maroc, que l’auteur rédigea lors de sa captivité. Il avait été capturé par des corsaires et retenu prisonnier à Rabat et Meknès de 1670 à 1681.
Il s’agit de l’histoire de la vie et des conquêtes des deux premiers sultans de la dynastie alaouite du Maroc, Mouley Rachid (1632-1672) et Mouley Ismail (1645-1727). L’ouvrage fut composé à l’époque où la France signa un traité avec le royaume du Maroc.
Édition illustrée d’un portrait de Mouley Ismail en frontispice, gravé sur cuivre. Complet avec ses deux cartes dépliantes. déchirure minime sur les 2 cartes.
Le livre premier est consacré au règne de Mouley er-Rachid, le livre second au règne de Mouley Ismaël, date du rachat de l'auteur. Le troisième est consacré aux moeurs du pays. Excellent observateur, Moüette n'en apporte pas moins une contribution notable à l'accroissement et l'embellissement de certains mythes: "l'eldorado barbaresque, petits paradis berbères, couplet classique sur la sodomie qui se commet publiquement et avec impunité.."
