Ancien livre "... comme tant d'autres. Histoire congolaise" par Henri Kerels (Molenbeek St Jean, 1896 - 1956), avec 255 pages (dimensions 12 x 19 cm), édité en 1937 par Les Editions de Belgique à Bruxelles.

Une histoire congolaise de l'entre-deux-guerres, à situer notamment dans le contexte de la crise économique. Il est dû au plasticien Henri Kerels, qui avait voyagé longuement au Congo, surtout dans l'Est. L'auteur se représente lui-même à la troisième personne à la fin de cette "histoire congolaise" qui se conclut à Bruxelles lorsqu'il rencontre inopinément ses personnages ; on comprend à cet endroit qu'il a voulu en quelque sorte témoigner de l'impasse où pouvaient se trouver ces coloniaux chassés du Congo par la crise des emplois, alors qu'ils y avaient beaucoup investi. Ce qui précède présente un intérêt documentaire par le cadre, essentiellement la ville de Lubumbashi à l'époque, dans laquelle les personnages circulent (et boivent) beaucoup, d'un lieu de sociabilité à l'autre. Les personnages congolais sont peu nombreux et quasi inexistants (la ménagère remerciée, le boy fidèle, divers anonymes). Le reste est l'histoire d'amour entre un broussard, d'abord l'employé d'une firme qui lui a confié une ferme expérimentale dans le Nord-Katanga (élevage de poulets), qui se croit atteint de la syphilis et décide de passer ses congés à Elisabethville, pour s'y faire soigner. Au bout de nombreuses semaines seulement, on découvre qu'il a plutôt la gale, et le problème est résolu, aussi du point de vue sentimental, car il a rencontré une jolie veuve, laquelle lui permet de comprendre que les femmes blanches sont désirables aussi (une série de débats à propos des ménagères). Mais il apprend finalement qu'il est licencié et obligé de rentrer en Belgique, où sa femme lui assure par son travail de couturière de quoi survivre.
