Braderie : La crise bancaire du début des années 1930 entraîne de plus en plus de commerces et d'entreprises. En 1931, un bijoutier dut abandonner son commerce dans la Friedrichstrasse à Berlin car il ne pouvait plus payer le loyer extrêmement élevé.

Les membres du NSDAP ont érigé des barricades dans le centre de Munich. L'éleveur de poulets de 23 ans Heinrich Himmler (M., avec des lunettes) se tenait devant le ministère bavarois de la guerre.

Je voudrais d'abord mentionner que j'ai, le 9 novembre 1923, créé une médaille, le "Hitler Putsch" (K-302) qui a fait mouche."
La médaille montre le ministre-président de l'époque, von Kahr, au pupitre de la cave Bürgerbräu au moment même où Hitler montait sur le podium avec un revolver dégainé. Sous le podium se trouve un citoyen typique de Munich, avec sa chope de bière, l'air perplexe. Le revers montre la marche vers la Feldherrnhalle. Ce bâtiment lui-même est présenté comme la scène d'un spectacle de marionnettes intitulé : Théâtre de Munich. Devant elle, des adolescents avec des drapeaux, une potence, etc., sont sarcastiquement présentés. Derrière le rideau se tient von Kahr avec un pistolet. Entre eux, comme un tiers rieur, se trouve un communiste qui les pointe tous les deux.
Cette médaille, j'ai envoyé au marchand de monnaie, Fr. Gebert, à Nuremberg, un de mes intermédiaires. Depuis mon installation à Munich en 1904, j'ai eu une relation très agréable avec le père et fondateur de l'entreprise, C.F. Gebert, un homme honorable qui commandait le respect de tous, tant dans les relations scientifiques que commerciales. Mais à quel point son fils est différent. Au cours de ses fréquentes visites, l'aîné discutait de son fils d'une manière critique.
Je m'en souviens très bien, à cause du traitement injuste que j'ai reçu de la part du fils. Gebert junior se précipita chez Julius Streicher (l'éditeur nazi du périodique pornographique et antisémite Der Stürmer) pour obtenir un jugement sur mon dessin de médaille, "Hitler-Putsch". Dans son petit bulletin d'information numismatique qu'il publiait, il mentionnait cette rencontre. Le Stürm a également répété l'histoire (juin 1924) qui peut être lue dans les coupures de presse. Il était clair que j'avais tapé dans le mille, ce qui ne m'a pas trop dérangé.
