I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Is that the reason, why the site has been running a bit slow today?

Many, many improvements. I like them.
However, the biggest problem I've been having with the site is still (or again?) there.

When I go to My Delcampe - My selling - Ongoing, sorted by item number, and then I try to Export to CSV (lister), I always get (and for a very, very long time already) a list of items, but not with the items of that page.
No, matter which page I try to export (1st, 25th, 36th, whatever), I never get the page containing the items on that page.

This is the main reason that, although I've been thinking of cleaning up some or a lot of older listings (lowering price or turn individual cards into lots) for a long, long time, it still stays wishful thinking.

Can you please have someone check this out, Seb?

    Thanks in advance,

    Heidi

Me too. I miss the days.

Some things are slowing me down at the moment, because I have to search for links, but I suppose it's a question of getting used to the new layout.

Where's the beef, as the old Wendy's ad for hamburgers asked in the 1980s...

Cosmetically cleaner front page, the removal of the annoying orange coloring is appreciated.

    But...

the item listing page is a major step backwards - picture is now aligned to left, still with no simple note to viewers to click on image for larger view.

Greater problem is that item description, shipping & handling, message from seller are "off screen" in the landing view that opens when someone clicks the item listing. Now they have to scroll down to find it - one further delay that will add to buyer search time and likely to contribute to a higher bounce rate. Something I'd expect from eBay, not from a specialist collectibles site. Disappointing and a major step backwards.

Serious consideration should be given to putting the important information for buyers - description & centering of pic, etc - back up at the top of the listing. Sale and seller information can easily be compressed to right hand side or returned to bottom.

More substantial changes sought by members, especially improving invoicing so it doesn't drop s&h off the invoice to buyers, remain unaddressed.

Despite being told here that it's a Paypal problem not Delcampe's, it's strange that a rapidly expanding collectibles site in North America has managed in the last six months to seamlessly link invoicing to Paypal with shopping cart, including s&h - as well as discounting s&h on multiple items, and automatically invoicing the customer without the seller having to do so. So it can be done - it's not rocket science.

Stand still and the world will leave you behind....

I agree with most of what you say especially in the area of item description pages, but what's the beef about invoicing?

I find the Delcampe invoice system works exceedingly well and I prefer to have manual control over what's going out in my name - OK I may not have the same throughput as many of you, but a lot of my sales are multiple items to one person so being able to quote combined postage as a function of weight rather than quantity is of paramount importance, and since PayPal is only one of several payment methods I accept, I think the constant banging on about 'linking' it is a total non-sequitur

Leave the invoicing system as it is - simple, easily understood, and working, and concentrate on the front-of-house problems

The beef about invoicing - if one were to take even a cursory look at threads in this forum - is that repeatedly over several years numerous sellers & some buyers have complained about insufficient payment through the e-wallet because the invoicing sent through Paypal drops the s&h off. New buyers in particular fail to see this and are extremely frustrated - as much as sellers, at times - that they have to be refunded and asked to make repayment in full. It certainly has its deterrent effects on repeat buying and contributes to the high rate of nonpaying bidders on this site.

Again, if you bothered to do even a basic search of threads here you'd know Moneybookers (International) has not been a means of payment option on this site for new US sellers for almost two years. (See D News' announcement of the change of Dec 18, 2008). Moneybookers USA (owned by Paypal) is a very poor and largely ineffective substitute that is not integrated into the e-wallet.

While Paypal may not be an important means of payment for you, it is a major means for many sellers. Moreover, Delcampe's own express survey of March 11, 2009 shows that buyers preferred Paypal as much if not more than Moneybookers:

"To make payments: PayPal or Moneybookers? (2009-03-11)

You can now use PayPal in addition to Moneybookers to make payments via the e-wallet. To make payments, you are going to use:

    PayPal: 728 / 1782 41% (728)
    Moneybookers: 381 / 1782 21% (381)
    Both of them: 545 / 1782 31% (545)
    None of them: 128 / 1782 7% (128)"

I don't mind if you learn the facts. I could care less about anecdotal evidence of your individual circumstance and your misuse of the term "non sequitur". I do care about how an inefficient invoicing system affects many buyers and sellers who rely on Paypal as a primary means of payment on this site.

You also seem to be unaware that a number of the largest postcard sellers here, along with some small-medium sellers, have opened up major operations on other sites in recent months. A number of buyers here, including mine, have crossed over too. Based on sales on those other sites, buyers seem happier with what they see including invoicing/payment system. Whether those buyers will return here and as frequently remains to be seen. Whether you wish to hear it or not, the competitive pressures are out there.

Clearly, you don't understand the basic principles of a shopping cart and automated invoicing as the seller sets the parameters for invoicing in advance so retains control of the process. And, on the better sites the seller has the option of manually sending an invoice if s/he needs to customize it. It is readily understandable and usable to a person with a modicum of computer skills.

I stand by what I said - the Delcampe invoicing system works perfectly well and I for one wouldn't want to see it go. I don't see the need for invoicing through PayPal at all

As I stated originally, I can't predict beforehand what postage will be as it depends on weight and, in the case of UK postage, dimensions also which is why I quote "typical single-lot postage" in my listings

Having seen the various reactions, I'll add my bit.

Like oldpostcards, I don't like the new layout of the item page. The description and the conditions of sale (i.e. payment methods) should be visible without having to scroll down.

At the moment everything still looks unfamiliar and I have to start looking for links to various different parts of the site, but I am sure I'll get used to that very soon. I like the new homepage; it looks nice and clear.

As far as invoicing and non payers is concerned, I have issues with both Xtf and postcarddepot.

pcd states that the main reason for high volume of non payers is the invoicing system. I disagree with that - the main reason is the different payment methods accepted by different sellers. I.e. often Eurozone sellers don't accept PP/MB and non Eurozone sellers don't accept bank transfers. Hence my earlier statement that payment methods should be clearly displayed, possibly more prominent and without having to scroll down.

pcd, IF Paypal knocks off the postage, it is due to the way your Paypal account is set up (there is one particular box you have to tick or untick to stop that happening and it's not a unique Delcampe problem - I've seen it mentioned regularly on another auction site as well).

I like the concept of being able to specify postage the way we do on Delcampe. We mostly sell relatively light weight items here, which means that in general we can send several items for a single basic postage cost, but there are limits and we need to increase p&p after we reach a certain number of items. However Xtf, I wouldn't say that the Delcampe invoicing system works perfectly well. Even after sending an invoice, especially new buyers often get it wrong. Maybe what is needed, is that the buyer HAS TO put in a value (even if it's 0) in the p&p box, before they can proceed with the payment - i.e. a pop-up box reminding them to add the postage.
Payments being received without p&p remain a regular irritation for many sellers and I think this is an issue that should be addressed.

However, I wouldn't go as far as Pcd and say that customers disappear because of it - as long as the sellers deal with the newbies in a friendly, helpful manner, this should not be an issue. In fact, there are quite a few buyers around who got their first payment to me wrong and are still buying regularly from many sellers on the site.

    Marianne,

Please read carefully, I did NOT say "pcd states that the main reason for high volume of non payers is the invoicing system".

I was careful in my phrasing: "and CONTRIBUTES TO the high rate of nonpaying bidders on this site". I didn't even say it was the major cause! Just a contributory factor.

I have had a number of newbies underpay and never make good on full payment. That makes them a nonpaying bidder in my book. Moreover, a number of them don't return to buy on the site - I know, because I've checked.

I have a large customer base in the US. Many who I've lured to DC, sample it and tell me they don't like the unwieldy nature of the site and especially the clunky checkout system. But, not to worry, they are now buying from me on another site(s) in droves where they have a more seamless shopping cart, automated invoicing system, far outpacing sales here. Again, most automated invoicing systems can deal with graduated shipping rates.

As for Paypal and a tick-off box, it's not that simple. 1) I don't need it for 4 other sites where invoicing proceeds without the glitches here, 2) selling on multiple sites, my s&h varies somewhat from site to site to accommodate differing market dynamics at each venue. Ticking a box at Paypal is likely to throw off that calculus. At least, that's what I concluded when I investigated the PP option suggested. But back to 1), how come I don't have to tick off a box at PP for 4 other sites???

Marianne: "I wouldn't go as far as Pcd and say that customers disappear because of it".

I'm only reporting from first hand knowledge of significant switching of my buyers from here to elsewhere. Plus, it is what a number of those same buyers have told me.
