    I've never used one and wouldn't consider it - I owe it to my potential buyers to provide the best image I can so it's a full-blown flat-bed scanner or digital camera on tripod for three-dimensional items

    I have used a hand held scanner a long time ago but not for postcards. I would not recommend it. Look for a bargain flatbed scanner.

    'Bargain' is a relative term of course, but you can buy a combined printer/scanner/copier for about £60 these days

    Or you can buy a decent 2nd hand flatbed scanner for about a tenner or so. My Xerox scanner cost me a fiver 2nd hand and I can scan up to six items at once with it. Just make sure that whatever you buy is compatible with your operating system if buying 2nd hand as not all makes operate on all operating systems as many do not have drivers available for the most recent editions of Windows.

    I have no idea how good ipad cameras are, but I used to use a camera for my postcards. Partially because selling postcards came about 2 years after I started selling and for the other stuff I needed a camera and I don't think I even considered the possibility of using a scanner. Only started using a scanner when the camera broke!

    As a seller I wouldn't consider it for a moment; as a buyer I'd avoid any seller who couldn't provide a half-decent scanned image; as an iPad owner I'd question whether you could get a good enough image

    Necessity made me change to scanner, but to start off I wasn't happy. I found that faults showed better in a photograph then in a scan. I was using a proper camera though and used to take all photos in proper light without flash.

    They look fine to me - although photocards seem sharper than colour.
