    I'm getting worse and worse at reading old lettering! Can anyone decipher this shop name? Thames Ditton, Surrey, postmark.

    It is 'Fuller's Confectionery', but that is a brand that is sold in the shop.

    The name of the shop is above it.

    Apparently we are seeing different things.
    To my opinion 'The Fernery' remains the most probable solution.

    Studying the photo there is a sign the the left of the picture that looks like it says Beer Garden and also looking at the shop window there are lots of bottles on show and Fullers is a local brewery so I would guess its a off licence to a public house, most likely the building you can see to the left, there is a pub in Thames Ditton called The Ferry, Iv looked at the pub on google but no sign of this building but it could have been demolished long ago.

    Studying the photo there is a sign the the left of the picture that looks like it says Beer Garden and also looking at the shop window there are lots of bottles on show and Fullers is a local brewery so I would guess its a off licence to a public house, most likely the building you can see to the left, there is a pub in Thames Ditton called The Ferry, Iv looked at the pub on google but no sign of this building but it could have been demolished long ago.

    Thanks for this. Your reply led me to check out Fuller's Confectionery. It appears that they were an entirely separate company to the brewers, though just down the road in Hammersmith. See Link (http)

    I think I'm going to have to give up on this one!

    The word Fuller's is a trade mark and would have been seen on a lot of shops selling their products. See the attached image. It doesn't relate to the name of the shop in any way, and neither does the writing. The shop name would have been written by a local signwriter. The references you would have found to Fullers in that area would be to Fuller's Brewery who owned many pubs in West and South West London and were a different company.

    They sold Fullers Confectionery, yes, but I'm sure it's not part of the shop name.
