    Hi,

    When you use the "simple" search engine (the one which appears in a seller's store, for instance), the only choice is "All of these words". But it shouldn't be the exact string of words, nor should the order matter (I just checked).

    In the "advanced" engine you have the choice between "All of these words", "Any of these words" and "Exact sentence", which I agree is more useful!

    I noticed though, that sometimes the engine bugs, and fails to find items which do fit the keywords.

    Hi,

    In my opinion, titles should include as much as possible the actual complete postcard title, including publisher, plus any relevant information such as more precise location, small but significant background elements...

    You can never guess what some people are really looking for!

    I use the engine a lot.
    I usually start with one or a few keywords, to make sure to leave nothing out, but if several hundreds items show up, I put more keywords, trying to guess what sellers might have guessed is interesting on their cards! (my subjects of interest being rather technical)
    I also try possible spelling or typing variations, and it often works!

    I just had a look at your store: seems OK to me!
    Nice prices too!

    I would think "carte postale" is useless, but who knows...
    Anyway we say "carte postale ancienne" or just CPA, but using these words will throw you into battles between specialists... some will only admit CPAs to be from before 1918, others will go well into the 60's! Then come CPSM, "semi-modernes", and CPM "modernes".
    Be very careful with spelling: Montmartre, Virage de la Mort (not Morte), vue aérienne.
    Skip accents as they obviously don't work in your browser, and cut through some words.

    XIII° = 13th, not 8th; moulage = cast.
    And 2 pix are missing!

    Let me know when you have anything relating to mining, tunnelling, construction, water mains, sewers, quarrying, waste, asbestos...

    Anyway that's what I like about the Brits, as we froggies tend to get a bit sloppy about serious matters...

    I wouldn't be surprised to have no sales with only 32 items so far, I believe you need hundreds and thousands to see things get a start!
    If you buy postcards at a flea market or shop, how many shoeboxfuls do you have to go through before you find something you like? Same thing here.

    Of course as a buyer-only, I enjoy the possibility of taking my time here... and sometimes I miss altogether because the seller removes the item, or a buyer comes around out of the blue when I wasn't watching! :crying2:

    Please note that we also eat rabbit and horse, which are as or even more disgusting habits to a well-mannered Brit, but I've never heard anyone call us by those names.
    I do believe this to be a blatant example of species discrimination!

    As a mild retaliation, we enjoy calling the British by the name of "Rosbif", and I have no idea why, as we also eat that for sure.

    There is a pub in Paris called "The Frog And Rosbif", where it is likely to find that sort of information, and many opportunities for friendly ties between countries!

    I get the point now about nutria! I was wondering, sounded like a medicine's name, something like bottled meat...
    In fact we do have these animals here, we call them "ragondins".
    They are an accidental import from America and considered a pest because they tunnel into river banks, and have no predators so they spread around, a bit like water rabbits if you like!
    I actually saw a nice family not so long ago, in Créteil - that's a suburb city a few miles out of Paris - yes, in a city!
    People were watching from a bridge and many were disgusted, I really don't understand why, they look like beavers, with rat tail all right but rats are OK with me! (not to eat...)
    Sorry, I didn't take a picture, but I'll show you if I go back and take one! (picture, I wouldn't know how to cook that even if I wanted to)

    It was during the 1870 siege of Paris that food became scarce and all sorts of living beings were asked to contribute: zoo animals (certainly ostrich, maybe emu!), dogs, cats, and finally rats which once tasted were apparently not so bad!
    There are pictures of butcher's shops with those signs, if I find one in a book I'll scan it for you to see.

    Talking of a change of diet, see what they're up to in London, and I'm not talking about the "rosbifs"! (Warning: 'tis a bit scary!)

    Now I understand your choice of name!

    Well, I have only my experience as a buyer to judge from, and not even other buyer's... and I don't have anything to sell, maybe you visited our Cajun friend's store instead?
    I think 300 is a good start. As far as I remember, I never came across a store of less than 200, and up to 20000.
    I always find an interesting store through the search engine, and then if it looks really interesting, and I have the time (20000 takes days :( ), I try to look at the whole store to find unexpected items.
    But even then I may find 2, 5 or 10 cards only, not much more. And I believe I have a rather wide field of interest, even if not so many cards fall in it.
    So it takes a lot of buyers to make some room in that shoebox!
    I also believe the destiny of a large number of cards is to remain unsold, and that in most stores. There are so many Châteaux de Versailles, Crue de la Seine, even beautiful and interesting ones...
    Not very hopeful, am I?
    And I am surprised that even some cards which I find great and rare, but out of my field, stay a long time unsold.
    But on the other hand, I have really boosted my collection in the past 6 months thanks to D*, so there may be the same effect for sellers! The are so many buyers after all!

    As I said earlier, don't worry about accents if they are a problem, the engine doesn't consider them.

    Moulage: I believe it means the card shows a cast copy of the original sculpted statue.

    Do you know the difference between crocodile and alligator?
    C'est caïman la même chose!

    (Caïman for "quasiment", "it's almost the same thing") :D
