Recently acquired this block of 6 2-cent national park issue. Is there a significance to the letter 'F' before the numbers? Is there a reason the selvage seems so wide (1 3/8" edge to perfs) I've cut the scan short but there are perfs on the bottom edge, too.
My only thought is that it's the top of a full press sheet.

Alright, a stamp dealer friend has finally answered my question about this block.
An 'F' was put by the plate number to indicate that the plate had been hardened. This seems to have died out when rotary presses became the norm for US stamps production. An 'F' appears on one of the two top plate numbers on many flat plate issues; I'd just never noticed one before.
