"Handling" and PayPal charges

    I cannot get used to the hidden charges that nearly all sellers add on to their sales.

    What exactly is "handling" charge? It can range from €0.50 up to €2.50 - for what? For an envelope? For walking to the Post Office? For putting the stamps or cards into an envelope? It's ridiculous and I have great respect for sellers who do not add this artificial charge.

    And then there's PayPal. For sellers, PayPal attracts buyers - yet most want the buyer to pay the commission when actually it's a facility for sellers. The meanness and the penny-pinching on Delcampe is difficult to comprehend.

    Maybe it's more accepted in some countries than others. I know that in my country it's seen as mean. Why not just charge the cost of postage, adjust your prices so that PayPal commission is not killing you and use recycled envelopes?

    It's a sad situation when shipping and hidden charges work out at twice the cost of the item(s) one buys.

    Far too many sellers are still making an additional charge for using PayPal and/or Delcampe Pay, despite it being illegal in the EU for many years. The Delcampe Charter, to which all sellers are supposed to be committed, contains :
    "Do not charge any payment fees to the buyer, in accordance with the application of
    the European Directive PSD II (2015/2366). However, the seller retains the right to
    offer a discount for certain payment methods."
    and promotion of that last "loophole" is not what should be expected from a leading organisation in online selling.

    These additional charges are frequently not even quantified prior to sale, in violation of:
    "Potential handling charges must be fixed and cannot depend on the number of items
    sold. Otherwise, the seller cannot demand their payment."

    Delcampe is generally a good organisation, but failure to enforce these legal requirements has been a big disappointment for a long time.

    If a seller adds the additional cost of using PayPal to EACH item sold the buyer pays the addition for EACH item purchased. On the other hand if the additional cost is added ONCE as a handling charge the buyer is very clearly better off.
    If I sell a stamp for 35p and the buyer uses PayPal I'm giving it away for nothing without the addition of a "handling charge".
