Why duplicate categories?

    Why are there duplicate categories for the same thing?

    For example for religious paintings stamps there are 2 categories to choose from :


    Topics - Art - Painting - Religious

    Topics - Religions - Paintings

    This has possibly happened due to people requesting sub-categories in a particular category, because they hadn't realized that there was an adequate category under another "main" category.

    Similar existed under postcards.

    There was a topics>famous people>royalty category and a topics>royal families category.

    When I realized it, I sent a message to Delcampe and asked them to merge the 2, which has since happened.

    Likewise for Dutch postcards there was a 's-Gravenhage and a Den Haag category - they are one and the same city, which has also been corrected.

    A few inconsistencies/duplications in the country categories (especially for Asia) where a country merely changed its name without any change of status or boundaries.

    For instance, Thailand & Siam are in different categories as is Cambodia & Kampuchea. But Sri Lanka & Ceylon and Myanamar & Burma are i the same category.

    Must be a reason for this......or not. Have mentioned this to D in the past with the usual deafening silence from the category maestro.
