Cannot bid any more

For the last couple of weeks, I have not been able to make any more bids via Delcampe. The "bid" button that is normally blue shows up as grey. I have been in touch with the help desk, received various instructions of things I can do to rectify the problem and have been told that, if all else fails, I should download Google Chrome.
In this world of ours where things become daily more and more globalised, I tend to stick out for free choice. At some point in the 19th century, freedom of choice was made a more or less sainted right of man - so I hope we haven't lost it in the 21st century.
I should like to know why, quite suddenly, Internet Explorer could no longer be used for bids. In the meantime, I shall need to check out Ebay and other stamp sites to see whether I can bid on them.

This sounds like a problem with your computer/operating system rather than the browser. I have no problem with IE though it is not my main browser. I use a variety of browsers as they all have their little foibles but stay away from the main ones as these tend to be more targeted by the hackers and scammers.

Why not try one of the Browsers - like Maxtor or Avant - that are not 'mainstream'. You will find you get far fewer problems as the crooks do not target them.

If you have not yet done so run a full scan with your anti virus programme and also run an anti-malware scan. You can use the free version of Antimalwarebytes if you do not already have such a programme on your computer. This will catch any rogue things on your computer.

Have you tried Firefox. I use this as my main browser having heard about Chrome problems and the relative insecurity of Explorer.

Many thanks for the helpful tips. What is odd is that this began just 2-3 weeks ago and nothing else is affected.
I have a Firewall and Virus protection, so there should be no problem.
    We shall see!

No increase of pop-up advertisements but certainly messages about the computer being slow an dusing 57 seconds to download virus protection and Skype.... So I'll go to the virus protectors and have them run a check. Thanks!
Delcampe never suggested it might be malware....

Good that you have joined our little forum community.

Regretfully, typhoons are getting worse....had another one 2 weeks ago that turned parts of Manila into a river (100+dead). Major flooding here too with power outage for nearly a week. Another on its way....

Tacloban City, hit by Haiyan last year, has still not been rebuilt and looks pretty much like a WW2 bomb site.....death toll unofficially is well over 10,000 but they stopped counting so as not to embarrass the President (who had announced that it was less than 2500). Target rebuilding of houses was 50,000 by June 2014 - actual number rebuilt is 150. Filipinos are not so good at realistic estimates!

    Anyway, I digress

On topic a bit more, Delcampe do seem to have problems with certain browsers as do some other auction sites. Firefox may not be the fastest or most techie browser but it works well, rarely crashes and simply does the job.

Great to hear from you again
    Mike

Thanks - not quite sure where to find Firefox - perhaps just Link (http) . Something to look into.
Last night I ran a Whole virus check and one item of malware was found. Perhaps this will have solved the problem. Time will tell!
But many thanks for all suggestions and help.

Waiting to see whether this has solved the problem.

    Hello Mike,
Sorry to hear the weather problems just don't go away. Plus if it's anything like Haiti, whatever cash comes in from NGOs etc., disappears along the way to what it was given for. Hope things improve soon. We just complain about "the weather" as the sun isn't shining as much as usual. Very upsetting for our son and his wife, here from the heat and humidity of Singapore!!
Am gradually working through all suggestions. Perhaps what I've done thus far will have helped. But DEFINITELY I shall come to the Forum next time rather than going to the Delcampe help desk.
And I must remember to cancel off Chrome!
    All best, Vivienne.

Yes, you can download from your link to Mozilla or via google search. Full name is Mozilla Firefox.

On the question of malware, I found that I needed specialist malware software configured to reach into the depths of the registry, updated online & scanned regularly.

A large number of virus scanners are configured for "quick" scan which I found to be inadequate for full protection of my financial details, online banking/payment portals, passwords and the like. These virus programs did not find the malware located deep in the operating system.....I even found one (Norton) where a clever individual had managed to insert malware into the Norton virus scanner program itself instructing the Norton program to ignore the malware when it found it!

    Hello Alan,
Well, when you ask questions like that, it only shows what a total dumbo I am! All it seems to say under the IE logo is that it's Internet Explorer (64 bit) which doesn't sound very satisfactory.
Mostly, when there's a programme update, I get a message and will allow the update. The version I've got is from May 2012 - or perhaps it was downloaded onto my laptop then...
    Best, Vivienne.

Oh, goodness - is there no safety anywhere?!
I should actually ask my son as he works with internet security in Sing. He may also have some ideas. Just hate to bother him while he's on vacation.

And thanks for more details of getting hold of Firefax.

    Best, Vivienne.

AND ... have just managed to make some bids.
Not without a couple of glitches that then sorted themselves out.

Good luck, Vivienne with sorting out malware.....free checkers are malwarebytes. baidu, avg, avast (numerous others on the search engines).

NGO's over here are mostly fake by the way and the few genuine ones suffer from funds shrinkage .....big case going on now with disappearing billions.....3 senators in jail so far with more to follow.....only the opposition party of course as all members of the ruling party are saints naturally.

    Oh, ye gods -
How can these people hold up their heads - and it is so typical of just about everywhere. So at least they are catching a few - perhaps the ruling party will change and then they can catch a few more.
If Avast is good, then that is what I ran and it did pick up one item which then got sorted, I suppose. At least, I asked for that. But I may run one of the Others. Some ppl say once it's there, it's almost impossible to lose, which is not good news.
In any event, even after ridding myself, hopefully, of the one piece of Malware, IE worked for about 6 bids and collapsed once more - so perhaps it's not me but Delcampe.$
I could, however, make the bids using Firefox.
    Thanks for patience and help.

    Try downloading and running this:

Make sure it is the free version that you download. If you have anything nasty on your computer this software should recognise it and you will be able to remove or quarantine it

Thanks, once again, for your help.
I ran a malware search via Avast that picked up one problem which, hopefully, then got resolved.
If I use Firefox - or whatever it's called - I can make bids again. IE still doesn't work perfectly.
I'll try your suggestion Tomorrow! I really don't want any "stuff" on the computer.
    Best regards,
    Vivienne.
