Sellers\' feedbacks

I want to discuss a topic that bothers me a lot as a buyer.
Why half the sellers don't give their feedbacks when I pay, and instead of that are waiting till they get my feedback (100% positive, of course)?
As if the buyer should know, if something is wrong with his order and he is going to complain he'll never get his positive feedback! Why is that?
Several times i had to restrain from sending negative feedbacks to unsatisfactory sellers knowing that this will only bring problems to me.
Can anything be done in order to improve this strange situation on Delcampe?

Because if the payment is Ok it's OK! Basta, as the italians say. You don't want to depend of anyone's mercy...
I did not mean to offend the sellers in general. 99 % of my orders were held prfect, but... If you don't get a feedback at all it's one thing, and if you get a negative one after you payed promptly and correctly, just because you are not satisfyed with what you've received (or not received at all) - is something different!

Sellers take 2 different points of view over this issue.

    1. They share your opinion - the buyer has done "his bit" once payment has been received and they will leave feedback. You've bought from me, so you know I fall into that category.

    2. The transaction is not complete until the buyer has received the goods and has communicated with them to acknowledge receipt.

In the first instance, the seller potentially leaves himself open to receiving negative feedback, if the buyer is not satisfied with the goods and/or doesn't receive the goods, which has happened a couple of times to me. It's very annoying to suddenly receive a negative feedback, when you've done everything correctly. From the moment I leave the item at the post office, I have no control over it; it would be very nice if a buyer would communicate about non receipt, rather then simply leave negative fb. I still remember the shock when I received 70+ 50% feedback a couple of years ago, because the buyer had to pay import duty; I'm afraid that is not my fault.

The 2nd scenario will make the buyer think twice to leave unjustified negative feedback and they would be more likely to communicate with the seller before leaving feedback. However, as you already pointed out, it may also stop the buyer from leaving deserved negative feedback.

If you are unhappy with your items and/or have not received them, you should communicate with your seller (regardless of having or not having received feedback) and then leave honest feedback, which reflects how the seller dealt with your complaint. I.e. if an item goes missing in the post and your seller refunds you, I think that deserves positive feedback; however if you complain and the seller does not communicate or says "tough, that's not my problem", they deserve to be marked down.

If you receive an unjustified neg. you can always ask Delcampe to intervene.

I believe this is a result of eBay and their decision some years back to remove the ability of sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers, so the obvious thing there was to wait until the buyer had left positive feedback and if they didn't, then the buyer probably get any feedback either.

This obviously doesn't apply to Delcampe where, obviously and quite correctly, negative feedback can be left if deserved, but, as many sellers 'migrated' to Delcampe from eBay, they undoubtedly just took their previous eBay practice and applied it to the new site.

I'm with the others on this thread - I leave positive feedback when the buyer pays, albeit, as Somersethedge says, it can be slightly annoying when the buyer doesn't reciprocate.

    Dear Moonstone,
thank you for giving me a feedback today! This is rather comic situation :)
I can only say that I also have sold several items here and every time gave my positive feedback to the buyer first.

As a seller I leave feedback once payment is received

As a buyer, I leave feedback once the item is received unless I get one of those annoying notes saying something along the lines of "I hope you like your card/stamps/etc. and will leave +ve feedback. Once I receive it I will leave feedback for you" or similar

Well guess what Mr Seller? You'll have a very long wait...

Every time I receive a payment I leave feedback, when I ship the paid items.
I have left 15.126 feedbacks, but only received 12.684.
I've left feedback to 2683 members, but only received feedback from 2227.
I think that a lot of buyers simply don't know how to leave feedback.

I sent payment to member Genady and left feedback as soon as the great items arrived. Well pleased.
Except I did not get feedback in return [common occurrence on all auction sites sadly].
So I wrote to the seller twice, three times asking kindly for my feedback.
    No chance.

But I can play dirty too. And I will play dirty if I don't get my feedback.
It is worth nothing this feedback but I am a nice guy and I expect others to be nice too.

    Or I play dirty.

    Tambling11.....don't ever cross with me.

The playing question is best left unanswered.

As to the Feedback not being compulsory, I know that. And there is the point.
What is the Feedback for then ?

"What is the Feedback for then ?"

It is for you to state what you thought of a transaction IF you wish to do so.

I do not know why people get so uptight about feedback! As a seller I sell items - NOT feedback. In my case I reciprocate feedback as it is not really very important to me to accumulate it. Also I use feedback received to know that the items I have shipped have been received - then I leave feedback. If leaving feedback is important to my buyer then all they have to do is leave it on receipt and they will get feedback in return. If my buyer does not want to leave feedback then that is fine with me - I am not going to jump up and down about it or cry into my cup of coffee. My feedback policy is stated clearly in my terms and conditions so the feedback accumulators who disagree with it just have to ignore my listings.

"I do not know why people get so uptight about feedback!"

I absolutely agree with that statement.

Although I operate completely different from you, where it comes to feedback, I certainly don't worry about it.

I would like it though if buyers would acknowledge receipt. I don't hear anything at all from buyers in about 20% of transactions. I just have to assume that the items have been received - I'm sure they would get in touch if there was a problem.
