During an idle moment I clicked on a few of the 'Birthday' user names to see how active these persons were on Delcampe. I was rather surprised at the high percentage that had not been active on the site for a while (several months or more).

Delcampe quotes a membership of around 600,000 so I wonder what proportion of these are 'active' members. By active' meaning they buy or sell items at least once a month. Maybe 50,000?

Ebay quotes a membership of +20 million but only a small fraction of these are active at any one time and includes quite a high proportion of multiple registrations. On Delcampe I have one user name but on Ebay I have eight different user names - most are dormant and were originally registered to sell certain specialised items that I never got around to listing there for one reason or another.

Looking through my Delcampe customer data base I have had 670 separate individuals buy from me of which about 400 have not been recently active in buying from me. It is difficult to compare this with Ebay as I no longer list there except very infrequently. My customer data base there numbered about 8,000 of which about 200 to 300 were reasonably regular customers. Of these about 70 or so followed me over to Delcampe and still purchase from me here.

It would be interesting to get others thoughts about the levels of activity on the site compared to the 'official' membership figures.

As the secretary of one of my former societies used to say: "Are you a member or do you just belong?"
