How can I change my Postage & packing charges. I listed some postcards at £1. Then I had to list some other items which will be more expensive to post so change the P & P page. Unfortuantely I noticed it has now changed the postcards to the higher rate. I need to change them back but when I clicjk on modify the item it does not allow me to change the p & p? Thanks

The p&p section is not item specific. Therefore try and be as comprehensive as possible in that section for different items or list your charges in the item description for each individual item.

I am now having to change all my P & P charges to include them in the description of my items. It is becoming tedious. Please can Delcampe make the necessary changes to ensure that P & P is specific to items. GB (not sure about other Counties) now uses a system called Pricing in Proportion. This is based on weight and size. Therefore you can not sell different items and then post them for the same price. Unless of course you solely list postcards or stamps.

Even then you can't be certain: large covers may exceed the basic rate dimensions, too many cards together go over the 5mm thickness limit, and so on - UK postage is just a nightmare and you can't even give an accurate prediction of combined postage until you know what people have bought or won

The only sure way is to send a combined invoice and hope your buyer reacts to it accordingly

True but you know what the P & P is for the item you are listing. Other auction sites such as Ebay and Ebid allow you to put the P & P charges against that particular item. Therefore when listing another item you can change the P & P accordingly why does Delcampe not do this.

I have altered my Shipping page to read to see listing and changed all my listings to include the P & P charges. I hope anyone watching any of these items will understand what is going on and that I am not trying to cheat them!

As for invoices (although this should be on another thread) it is very annoying when you have won an item and click pay now and the total amount payable does not include the P & P for that item - unlike other auction sites. You therefore have to go back to the item - check the P & P costs and then add it. Ok if you have won more than one item then you have to wait. No problem but for one item it should include the P & P costs.

I have to agree, Delcampe's postage bit leaves a lot to be desired, that's why I quote 'typical postage for single item lots" in my Postage and Delivery field which was OK when it was appended to the item description but now it's on a separate tab, well...

I resisted the temptation to include individual postage costs on every item as I thought the task of revising them if rates altered would be too much to contemplate

So yes, a separate section for input of postage rates on the Sell Your item form would be useful, and let's just hope Royal Mail don't alter their prices too frequently

I agree with you that putting individual postage on each item would be too difficult to change whenever RM decides to put their prices up.

Selling mostly postcards, I have just specified the rates for postcards in my p&p section and asked any buyers to wait for my invoice for all other items or to contact me for a quote beforehand, if they want to know exactly what p&p is going to be.

I have actually become quite used to it, apart from the occasional newbie who forgets to pay p&p, due to the unfamiliar setup compared to other sites.

If I remember well though, the changes that were brought in earlier this year were only a first step towards improving the checkout system, so we might well end up with "a fully integrated" checkout at some future date.

Many thanks for your replies and the explanations as someone who has not listed a lot on her before this is much appreciated. I will await further developments. Now that I have listed some postcards and covers when I list some more I will just copy and paste the details.

As Xtf pointed out though: if you list it in every single item description, you are going to have a lot of work on your hands when RM decides to increase their prices again.

You may want to have a look how we have set our p&p up and do something similar until such times that it becomes a fully integrated feature. Personally, I have never had problems with disgruntled customers over p&p and only very occasionally do I get someone asking for a quote beforehand (and that is generally when they are going for a very large quantity, i.e. 40 or 50 items in one go).

My position as a buyer is: If p&p is stated and is resonable I'll bid/buy. If it's very high I'll stay away. If it's not stated I enquire first and depending on the answer, I will or will not go ahead. But I won't buy anything unless I know exactly what the charges are.

That is how I bid/buy on all auction sites.

I hope my P & P charges are fair and reasonable. (mind you can not get them any cheaper without making a loss).

Unfortunately we are all hostages to fortune where postage costs are concerned, so as long as you are covering your cost of postage and packing materials then no-one should complain
