    I was unaware of that sentence that the seller determines the time the credit remains valid.

    Unless changes have been made since the launch, the period has been set by Delcampe to 6 weeks from the last purchase.

    i.e if I buy something today, my credit is valid until 6 weeks from now - if I buy something else in 2 weeks time from the same seller and choose not to use my credit, all of it, including what I earned today, is valid until 8 weeks from today.

    That sentence is incorrect. The seller cannot determine the expiration date. Once a buyer receives DBC credits they remain valid for 6 weeks (starting from his last purchase).
