If you run an online business you choose the method of sending your items to your customers and charge accordingly. Regrettably items do get lost in the mails and it is rightly the sender who is responsible as only they can claim for missing items.

You also as a seller can choose who you do business with. If you are losing a lot of items to a particular country or from a particular grouping of buyers only let them have their shipments sent by Registered or signed for mail. I did this with buyers from China as I was losing 3 in 4 shipments using ordinary airmail. My losses to this country disappeared.

Or simply do not ship to these places or people at all. Simply refund any payments but make sure your terms and conditions clearly indicate who you do or do not ship to and how.

You will always lose a percentage of your items to thieves and scammers much like a shopkeeper loses to shoplifters. All you can do is take every action you can to mitigate and minimise these losses. Checking feedback of buyers helps and leaving feedback that reflects a transaction does also. Unfortunately too many do not leave negative feedback for non performing buyers so they continue to get away with their misdeeds and the convoluted time intensive dispute resolution system does not help either.

If you have buyers insisting on ordinary airmail when you have indicated shipment by another means you should decline their business and refund them. You set your terms of business not the buyer.

When a buyer insists on something you are unwilling to do then alarm bells should ring. If you change your business terms every time a buyer wants to change them then you will often get scammed and lose money. If a buyer really wants your item they should agree to your terms not the other way around. Of course a lot depends on your pricing compared to sellers of the same or similar items. If you are much more expensive than the competition you will get no sales.

Just a few comments. I have been selling on Delcampe for many years, firstly in UK and for 10 years from Philippines. ALL my sales are sent registered post and I decline all orders by regular airmail. This applies even for sales of a few cents - very very few buyers object and, - frankly, I do not want their business if hey complain about postage charges that are quite clearlt stated in the shipping costs section.

About 99% of my sales on this and other sites are paid by paypal and I have problems with maybe 1 item a year out of 1000 or so packages a year - my experience is that pp practically always refund the buyer unless the seller can prove delivery This is a very minor business risk. A few cents added to all postage costs of a package should cover the risk if any seller wishes to do that. I decline all sales to any country where I have persistent problems with either the postal service there or buyers in that country

On the subject of feedback, I think it important that regular sellers leave negative feedback for non-payment etc to protect the Delcampe seller community. That may occasionally lead to a negative reciprocal feedback......but I sell collectibles not feedback so, for me, that is another miniscule business risk..

I have to say that I sell as a hobby rather than as a business, so my comments may not be appropriate for dealers or professional sellers.

    Happy collecting.

Ok.....but Delcampe is a selling platform only I doubt that it will make suggestions to sellers about selling ,postage prices etc unless any seller breaches the overall Delcampe rules.

Sellers on this forum can share their own experiences and make suggestions, but it is then basically up to you to decide which, if any, of the suggestions are appropriate for your business

Have you discussed your problem of losses with your insurance company or broker?
