    "APO stands for Army Post Office (and includes Air Force) and FPO is Fleet Post Office (for the Naval installations and ships).Both are military addresses. This designation is followed by a two character state of AE (armed forces in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada). Other states are AP (for the Pacific) and AA (for the Americans other than Canada)"
