    hallo everybody.
for people like us , that sell, buy, swap stamps all through Europe and oversee, it is important to know that what we send arrives safe .
best and safest way of shipment is registered mail, within your own country all you have to do is conect to your post website and know immediately were your letter is. but what happens with international reg.mail?
it is only traceable untill the border!!!
when it changes country it also changes the bar code and there's no way of tracing it.
in case of loss, it is very difficault , and sometimes impossible, to know were it is.
Now, I think that traceability of reg. mail is one of the main characteristics of this service. If we get half of it WHY MUST WE PAY FOR THE WHOLE SERVICE?
Please note that the bar codes are exactly the same in all European countries : RR/9 numbers/ 2 letters indicating the country.
I think this could easily be solved either
    1) keeping the same code of starting country traceable till destination
    2) comunicating new number to starting country
    3) in united europe using a unique EU code
since two years have past from having one currency it's absurd that nobody can do a so simple and usefull thing.
What if a consistent group of peolple wrote petitions to the posts of their own country asking for a european traceability of registered mail?
thyi could easily organize through online philatelic forums.
What do you think of it?

    bonjour steven,
well, we cajuns are a very animated people, esp. when we get together and eat crawfish and gumbo. that hot sauce :angryfire: makes you want to dance and listen to zydeco music. i give up the drinking 20 years ago and the smoking 10 years ago for my health. so i eat good food for my pleasure. but i have to watch that too, my waistline is too big, got to trim it down some. that bullet has slowed me down at 55 too. just went to the doctor today and i have some problems with not sweating from my nerve damage, and the heat of florida really is getting to me now in the summer. i may have to move to canada and be with my french cousins in quebec. y´all take care in england. you may see my brother there a lot. he is an international lawyer and has an office in london. a barrister as you call them. my dad was stationed in england in 1956-7. sure wish he had taken us with on that tour of duty. i would have liked that. never been to europe, just southeast asia, twice. take care my friend. have a good week. a bientot, bill.

    Hi Bill,
Little mistake, I live in Switzerland, near Geneva.
I´m scottish by my father´s side & swiss by my mother´s, lived my first four years in northern England near the Adrian wall, in a place called Featherstone, near Haltwistle.
I kept most of the scottsman´s joyful´s caracter & I´m also a very animated bloke when I hear the sound of bagpipes with a malt whisky or a nice beer in my hand!
Quebec is I heard a great place, never had the chance to go mind.
The last big trip I made was on the west coast of the US & that was in ´91.
After that my job & responsabilities going a pair with it, took over on my private life, after having a nervous breakdown & loosing my job recently, I´m now on the dole, that leaves me some time to rebuild my life & surf on Del´s (Seb´s) site, sorry Seb!
    Cheers mate!
    Steven

hy Steven. pleased to meet a scottish friend. I'm Italian but half Irish and my Grandad was Scottish.
going back to the thread, till now all my reg. mails have arived safe, sometimes late but safe. and I send about 50 each month between international and national.
in Italy it is estimated a loss of 4% of prioriry/ordinary mail and less than 0.5% of registered mail.
the only problem I find is that once the letter leaves Italy I can't follow it longer, and this happens in every country.
I just don't think it's correct, and it could be easily solved because the codes in the different countries are similar and they probably use the same system to trace the letters.
    regards
    paolo
