Marking old offer as "new" becomes cheaper at Delcampe

Many sellers have recently complained that Delcampe keeps showing the same items as "new offers". And Delcampe has just sent out a circular with the "good news" that the option to do this will be cheaper from November 1st.

    I can't believe it... :d-unhappy:

Of course I mean buyers - not sellers.

According the Delcampe email in French this "very good news" follows "a meeting with several very active sellers on Delcampe".

It is curious that "very active sellers", however they are, don't mention this concern in the French Delcampe forum, where the complaints are very much similar to the ones here in English: lower sales with the new buyers fees and mandatory display of low offers up to 30% for all sellers.

I would imagine this is simply because sellers have stopped listing new material on Delcampe because it isn't selling, and therefore, in an effort to make it appear that there is something new to offer to buyers, they are promoting these 'new' sales, which aren't new at all.
Yet another example of how their plan has failed to achieve their objectives, I would reckon.

We have been part of the Delcampe community for many years, and to be honest, we have never utilized the option to relist an item as new a single time. We understand the frustration this can cause buyers, so we have no intention of using it. Our items only remain marked as "New" for the initial period of the listing, and we accept that all automatic renewals no longer carry the “New” tag.

It’s unclear to us who these “very active sellers” are, but the current situation has become utterly ridiculous. If this is what Delcampe considers a solution or “good news,” it seems they are unaware of the depth of their challenges. Those assessing the situation appear to be missing the critical points that have been consistently raised in forum discussions over the past weeks and months. I have not seen a single comment directly addressing this concern, other than a famous upcoing mid-November meeting, which will include "English" speakers :o .

In previous comments I made on the forums over the past weeks, I mentioned that the site feels botched and that Delcampe is treading on choppy waters. I genuinely believe we are nearing a point of no return.

As a result, we are seriously reconsidering our engagement with the platform. Unless there are radical changes that address the real issues faced by both sellers and buyers, we will soon stop uploading new items altogether.

Using that option (or using the API to do similar) seems to really annoy buyers who look for new listings in their subject area, and can get you blocked, according to other threads on this forum.

As others have said I've never used that option and highly doubt I would get enough sales due to it to cover the GBP11.70 fee for doing so anyway.

Discount the fees that are actually causing issues (and charge fees to the right people and places) and Delcampe may revive the site.

"In order to avoid abuse, an item (same title, same images, same description) can only be sold by the same person once every three months, except in the case of the paid "new” section, which is limited to maximum once a month." (found in the Delcampe terms (5.3.9.)

I only received this as an email. I haven't seen it anywhere on the site yet. Since the email is only in German and French, it would probably be better if someone else copied the English text into the forum.

That's an excellent point! Unfortunately, DC remains silent, providing no updates on the actual impact of all the changes. There must be a reason for it, and I doubt it's a positive one...

Here is the English email which I received 2 days ago...

We have great news for you!

Following a meeting with several very active sellers on Delcampe, we have decided to reduce the price of the renewal feature for your items!
This will give you the opportunity to boost your sales at the end of the year.

From November 1st, the new price will be 1.4 cents per item, all taxes included (with a minimum of 14€).

For Store Plus subscribers, the price will be even cheaper! It is only 1.3 cents per item (including VAT) (with a minimum of €13).

Not a Store Plus subscriber yet? Discover its many advantages!

In addition to this very advantageous rate, our professional sellers benefit from a discount of 10 to 20% (depending on VAT liability), as well as the possibility of reclaiming VAT.

Take advantage of this benefit from 1 November to sell your items!

    We wish you successful sales!
