Canada Post

Canada Post seems to have stopped tracking international packages within Canada. This was OK to a point as my Canadian packages still arrived at their destination.

Recently, however 3 packages have been recorded on Canada Post when they are sent there but seem to have completely disappeared. With no tracking available, this is a ludicrous situation.

I will therefore have to consider refusing all orders from Canada for the time being in view of the international distance selling rules and paypal's refusal to accept proof of posting...only proof of delivery.

Any other countries postal services doing this? USA said they would not track, but still mostly seem to provide this service.

Maybe other countries should refuse to track inbound packages from Canada as a reciprocal measure?.

Feedback on this sorely needed...thanks

There was another thread about it a few weeks ago:

No idea, what you can do about it, other than claiming back from your own post office, if something does go wrong. They charged you for the service, if they don't deliver what you paid for, they are breaking their contract with you.

Thanks for the link Mainly,,,,I have no trouble with any other country re registered mail (all my sales are sent registered and is all of them are international).

Regretfully, claiming from my local postal service here would be pointless as they take the view that the packages are in Canada as shown by Canada Post website and that it is their fault. Laws over her tend to be made up on the spot and subject to change without notice :D
My only recourse seems to be to suspend selling to any country that refuses to track international mail and see what happens. Lack of tracking in itself should make no difference to deliveries - but Canada Post seems incapable of delivering mail either!

Canada Post is very reliable. However some items may be stopped by Canada Customs, which can delay delivery for many days.I have found some registered mail delivered without my signature, but that is a small minority.Being in Toronto the mail is timely, however I suspect that some small rural areas might not be as efficient.Canada does not offer registered mail to the USA since they no longer have a dedicated routing of registered mail and have blended all mail into one system. As long as there is a tracking number for your delivery, paypal will support your claim of delivery.
I have found that registered mail leaving Canada is only tracked to the departure point.Items entering Canada are tracked on the Canada Post website. International registered letter (normal letter) costs $20.50 CND. Nice price!

I am sure you are right about Canada Post as you live there....the registered packages missing were all sent at different times over 6 weeks ago. Delivery addresses were Vancouver, Edmonton & Toronto and not rural locations. During the last 12 months, these are the only 3 packages that got "lost" out of over 1500 international mailings.

You are right about tracking on the site of the country of origin which tends to be only to the departure point. However, I use an international tracking site (trackitonline) that links the tracking of the country of origin with that of the buyer's country to give a complete record right up to delivery.

The reason for my concern is that paypal will not accept tracking numbers proving that an item was posted but will only accept proof of actual delivery. As Canada Post does not provide tracking facilities, international sellers have a hard time proving delivery!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend...

I am going to do some checking with Canada Post regarding the policy for signature and tracking.I'll post the results.
