Removing Cards from Albums

A lot depends on how a card is stuck into an album, i.e. what type of adhesive has been used

I assume that we are talking about old cards in old albums, in which case the glue will be a natural product; if this is so then the first thing to try would be a cotton-bud soaked with warm water to dissolve the glue, assuming it is a water-based paper glue such as size, starch or gum arabic

If it is the real old-fashioned brown stuff of animal or fish origin then you've got a real problem as the only way I know to remove that stuff is to boil the offending article to soften it, and you're more likely to destroy the card and leave the glue intact - technically you've achieved what you set out to do but of little use at the end...

Another option is to carefully remove the card and some of the album page (a scalpel helps with this) then carefully scrape the bulk of the page material off the card - the cotton-bud may help here once again

Modern adhesives as used on self-adhesive labels and the like can be dissolved safely with a product called - with startling simplicity - "Sticky Stuff Remover" which works on porous and non-porous surfaces alike. You can buy it at many hardware outlets such as Focus DIY or Lakeland, or even Betterware and Kleeneze catalogues
