the start of this new Brussels madness, it depends on the whim of the local customs office, whether the recipient is lucky or not . Here are two examples, sent from Switzerland to France: the one declared at 16 CHF was hit with a customs hammer of 15 euros (doubled the "fun"), while the other at 20 CHF went through for free. What can I say?

martin52, this is not Brussels madness, it can happen when sending to any country that something slips through.

I'm curious though about one thing. I can see that you're not a registered business, so why did you attach the CN22 customs declaration at all? What kind of packaging did you use? Did you send registered or regular?

first of all: are you a diehard ABBA-fan I knew before?
these new EU-customs rules are targeting against the flood of parcels from the far East. But these BIG seller are prepared and send now out of European countries. But it mostly hits small sellers from outside the EU, because our sales will surely go down drastically. It also hits the buyers within EU, who are forced to pay much more for items, ordered from other European countries outside EU, such as the UK or Switzerland. As for the CN-label, we are forced to use it for letters above 50g, because their content can no longer declared by the previous green label.....else we are at risk, that such letters will be returned.

    I'll reply in reverse order.

The two letters are both below 50g :)

The customs declaration is necessary when sending goods, but you don't have to affix them when sending "documents".

Ergo, if a shipment is packaged in such a way that it looks like a document, there will be little incentive for the customs clerk to inspect the shipment.

Yeah, yeah... the EU would have implemented those regulations anyway since nothing (unrestricted globalized trade) remains unspoiled forever. Yes, too bad for the little man, but great for the little man that we had 20+ years of unrestricted global trade.

    Mamma mia! ;)
