    the stamps posted by you belongs to the years 1928-29
    and were issued for the Italian colony of Eritrea.
    The value of your items was Cent 30 + 5 cents and the surtax
    was in favour of the "Società Africana d'Italia" in its 46th anniversary.

    I don't add values because my catalogs are too dated.

    Since I discovered the existence of this set I was always interested in it, because one of the 18 towns mentioned is my birth place.
    The tale told by the old man explains for example how it happens that these provisional stamps were obtained overprinting revenue stamps used, for example, for match boxes. They were seized from a factory of such goods were it is presumed they were available in large quantity. The catalogues mention that these stamps are only known in the state of used from the town of Udine, and again this is in agreement with the old story. Today this set is not particularly difficult to find (not cheap either) but I have never seen one of these letters or postcards from Udine.
