Yes....there has been improvements in some areas. However, I was appalled that Tacloban is still pretty much a disaster zone with most areas there still without power and rebuilding at a desultory pace.

On my regular trips to Ormoc from Biliran, I notice whole villages much the same as immediately after the typhoon - poles down, houses without roofing or walls......no work for the rural population as entire forests of coconuts were destroyed. The local people are trying hard but their municipalities or barangays have no money and help from central government is precisely zero.

We are personally still involved in relief/reconstruction aid in view of the lack of action from 'official' sources.....still the area is arguably better off than some areas of Mindanao where power is still not connected following the typhoon Bopha (Pablo) in 2012!

Agreed......people are moving on.....many out of Leyte & Samar to Cebu or Manila to join the vast ranks of unemployed in those cities. Great shame......its put great swathes of Leyte back 15 years with no sign that anyone in power or with money proposes to do anything unless or until the area gets into the international spotlight again.

Its been hot and sunny for some time now but here, many are dreading the forthcoming typhoon season as the typhoons in Visayas seem to get bigger and stronger every year.....but Filipinos are quite resourceful and bounce back from these annual (or more frequent) disasters Enjoy your summer my friend

PS...you are right about the wages. May I add that in many rural areas with 75% unemployment, that this wage has to support an entire family...10+

I completely missed February's charity auctions. Hopefully I will be more alert this month and will try and raise some more money for you.
