We are registered with the TPS, which means that companies are not allowed to phone us for cold selling purposes.

This afternoon I received such a phone call - I asked the caller where he was phoning from. Initially he would not answer, but after insisting I got a reply. I still cannot believe what he said:

"From the Philipinnes, why do you ask, are you racist?"

TPS only circulates in the UK and even then is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike! I am also registered with TPS but have got calls from UK companies saying " I know you're registered with TPS but I'm sure you wouldn't mind....." - to which the stock answer is 'Yes, I would' and put the phone down.

Because so many businesses have outsourced their sales arms to places such as Philippines & India, they have basically found their way round this, although i did hear something on the radio recently about telesales staff in india going off on sick leave as they had been taking so much abuse from people they had called in the UK - perhaps your Phillipines person had had some of that!!!!!

    Hi Moon,

I expect you're right, as far as your last sentence is concerned.

We signed up to tps many years ago and at the time the unsolicited calls went from 5 or 6 a week down to nothing. But as you say, companies have now found their way around it by calling from overseas call centres and/or phoning for "market research" purposes.

Coincidentally, the "company" that phoned me was featured on one of the BBC financial radio programmes earlier this week. Very high pressure selling - they broadcast some recorded conversations. Downright rude! I can't believe there are people out there who actually fall for those sorts of things after being spoken to the way they/I were.
