WWI comic German card?

    Never been able to work out this joke, why a Scotsman? but its a nice card! I have a whole series from this sender, he ended up on the Goeben

    Hi Dave,

    Several cards of the same series are on Delcampe (I found them with the search 'ad hoffmann').

    They all present humour with a wink (never humour that really makes you laugh).

    So I think the 'joke' on your card is simply that even the Scotsman (who lives far away in a rough country) gets to know that a war is going on. Let's not forget it is a German card. In war time Germany it must have sounded funny that even the Scotsman is confronted with the great German war power. So the card contains humour (the 'primitive' Scotsman notices a war is going on) and propaganda (all over the world, even in the remote Scotland, the German war effort has success).

    That's my opinion, but I would be glad if someone maybe sees a different joke in it.
